And then out of the blue pops up the GT2RS MR development car that would later do the all time production-car lap record at the Nordschleife of 6:40"!!
Back in August I was at the car park when I noticed an odd Porsche GT car.
At first I thought it was the same 991.2 GT3RS as mine but with a racing seat and BB number plates (Porsche Weissach/Flacht) which I thought was very strange as it was Touristenfahrten. But then I realised it was 10 minutes before they would close the gates so I thought it must have been something special.
Then I saw it was a GT2RS MR version!
I gave it a go but of course was completely embarrassed. After the jump at Schwedenkreuz I heared a thumbing sound and feared it might be a punctured tire so I took it slow from there on.
Cool to have spotted the car and have a nice chat with Michael from Manthey after!

this car (the gt2rs mr) looks like it accelerates seriously fast from 140kmh to 230+kmh if you look at the clip in the 1st minute..looks like the car is pushing itself seriously fast..would like to know more about the mod they used.

No engine mods, just chassis. So a stock GT2RS is still that quick in a straight line.

I would imagine that it's dangerous following a much faster car. One might be tempted to attempt to push as hard as the faster car which might not turn out so well for the slower car and less experienced driver.

*It’s a 3RS. I only use it to go to the Nordschleife, drive on the track and then back home. It’s about 800-1000km per trip so quite a lot for a car like this 😅

Have you ever driven a 2rs? I heard the 3rs actually handles better. Is this true? They say 3rs is track focused only while 2rs is a top speed car which is why it's faster. I thought the 2rs was track only aswell just turbo charged.

Only as a passenger and to be honest I was not that impressed. I thought I would really feel the 700hp in my stomach but the power delivery of the 2RS feels so linear that it feels like a atmospheric engine. It’s only when you then see the speedo how crazy fast you are going. The 3RS is indeed closer to a “real race car” feeling. It’s the bits in between corners the 2RS is much faster.

So the current generation of 911 is called 991.2. 911 is the name of the car. 991.2 is its generation, much like M3 used to have the famous E46 and E92 generations. In case of the 911, 991.1 cars were 911s manufactured between 2012 and 2015/16 after which they went twin turbo setup (on Carrera and GTS trims) dubbed 991.2 from 2015/16. Let me know if still any confusion
