I bought my 32 gtr about 5 months ago. When it was delivered the n1 headlights had been removed and replaced with s1, indicator harnesses taken, all tyres flat, dead battery with bracket stolen, bone dry fuel tank and a bunch of other bits on it which was very different to how the car was inspected. I love these cars but having to deal with people just out for a buck to have one breaks my heart.

That is why I would never buy one , for the money they want for one of these skylines is just not worth it and way too risky in my opinion. Imagine needing parts for the car , like a windshield for example . For a six figure car you can get something far better that you would be able to get parts for. I mean I like skylines just as much as the next enthusiast but not for 100,000 thousand 😂, shit my r35 didn’t cost six figures and it a far superior car.

I'm outside the US. I work for an importer (which will remain unnamed) that's been importing mostly JDM and and US musclecars into Europe for decades This is really a tale i've heard a million times. Very rarely does a car from Japan show up without theres some sort of shenanigans going on with it. One way or another it's not what you paid for. Also, you have no idea what type of backyard hackjob shit repairs people do over in Japan. Easily the worst i have seen, even from cars that were imported from Eastern Europe. Not just generally, but especially when selling cars for export. They'll put 3 blurry pictures on the ad that looks like they were taken with a flipphone from 2004 and people will buy them anyway sight on seen. What are you going to do? Show up in Japan? Good luck getting your money back or even having someone reply to your emails.

I know the guys on the Japanese side of GTR Garage. The company folded because of the guy in Indianapolis (I think his name was Ryan, but he went by Richard) kinda ran it into the ground. He'd actually done the same thing with a previous company. I also knew the Rivsu guy when he was in the Marine Corps in North Carolina. I'd been saying for years how shady they were, but no one would listen. Years later, I was finally vindicated, though it was too late for you. He also used to post on a Japan based car forum, ironically under the screen name Trust.

So may people and shops have gotten scammed importing Japanese cars here in past 5 years. RX7s, skylines, gtrs, silvias, etc. From totaled cars slapped together and sold after advertising it with inspection and pictures before the wreck. Others were non running, flood cars all rusted out underneath.

This is why you get a 3rd party inspector to inspect the car in Japan, not just some shtty auction sheet, an up-down-all around top to bottom no stone unturned inspection. If you can't tell if a car is good or not with that, you should probably just ride the bus.

I was thinking the same thing. I suppose the first scam (the R32 towed in a blizzard on an open trailer) is kind of a coin flip, the truck company definitely cheaped out on the shipping because they lose less money by cramming as many cars as they can on a single trailer rather than delivering each car separately with an enclosed trailer and whatnot, but at the same time you can't account for bad weather although I'd argue that if you live in Colorado you should know that it snows there during february and perhaps you shouldn't buy an expensive car and have it delivered at that time of year. The second scam really had me losing my mind. Like, forget not doing your due diligence on the fake company, you were already scammed once and had parts stolen off of your first car and you still decide to go out and do it all over again? By the time he got to the story about the third scam with the lawyer I was just done with it. Like, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me", but fool me thrice? Really? Doing a background check on a lawyer is one of the easiest things you can do and it's free, you don't even need to pay for it. You deserve to have lost money on the lawyer, money on the second car (and lost the car itself) from the fake company and parts stolen from your first car and all of the restoration costs that followed.

For the first one he went to Japan and actually saw the car. What more diligence could he have done. As far as Rivsu, they scammed a lot of people. I lived in Florida at the time when they started. They had a big reputation. Never heard anything negative until they closed up shop in the middle of the night and skipped town. The scummy lawyer is the only thing I can really fault the guy for.
@kendanx
@kendanx 9 ай бұрын
@@erikw792 The lawyer was recommended to us by the Florida Bar Association... Hiring a lawyer for anything car-related that isn't personal injury is almost impossible. I must have called 20+ different law firms before I asked the Florida Bar for a referral. Unless the lawyer stands to make $100k+ off an insurance company payout, they don't want to bother helping you.

@@ChaosZero. First car - As stated in the video, I paid for an enclosed transport. The auto transport broker (Montway) assigned the delivery to an open flatbed (CHK Express) and then denied any responsibility for their mistake. There's a lot more to that situation that isn't explained in the video. Second car - Rivsu was pretty huge back in 2016/2017 - probably the second largest importer in the country at the time. Lots of folks had purchased cars from them with no issues, including a couple guys local to me. The company wasn't fake by any means. The lawyer was recommended to us by the Florida Bar and had hundreds of positive reviews. This video is a heavily condensed version of the story for time purposes. It may seem like I was just throwing money at random companies due to the editing, but that is far from the truth. Nobody deserves to get scammed.

@@Bv1nte How many of these are even in Spain/Portugal? It's my understanding they aren't easy to import there, but It's not a pair of countries I've really looked into regarding import laws. Bottom line, though, if you're going "foreign" from the US, you're still going to have to put it on a boat and pay import taxes on it, so buying from Spain/Portugal is just adding extra steps and at least traditionally they likely asked for more for the same car/condition since they had to pay a lot to import it the first time.

@@nunyabusiness896 we have no restrictions about age or emissions (as long as it's original), just safety for pedestrians. For 70k you can buy a completely rust free gtr that has been in Europe for the last 15 years

Almost all the good stuff is gone, we got it in NZ/AU before you yanks could. If you want one of these over-rated crap heaps (I love the OG Skylines but Nissan is mostly crap), fly there and sort it out yourself with trusted people. Stop skimping on an over-priced car.

It's amazing how Americans will spend top dollar for Japanese economy cars simply because their own regulations turned their country into boring SUV land - I refuse to acknowledge modern pickups as anything other than SUVs for people who hate SUVs.

Lot of incomplete/misinformation here: The Nissan GTR is *not* an "economy car." It's clearly a Sports Grand Tourer (literally in the name). 😅 The Government regulations you mentioned were pressured by German car companies... We don't like them either. Regulations have nothing to do with an increase in SUV popularity. This trend is being seen worldwide; there's just faster adoption in the US, because we have a suburban road infrastructure. Trucks aren't SUVs; SUVs are trucks (you've got it backwards).

Bro what r32 gtr costs 16k in Canada? Most r32’s are gts or gtst, more automatic than manuals with 99% of them having rb neo engine & costs at least 20k+ with high mileage.

That’s not that bad that just takes some cleaning and detailing true some people are to lazy to do that but when you do the value should go up as a product but they don’t as a consumer market ,,,, but as an enthusiast the price goes through the roof
