Cindy Hazen, Mike’s wife at the time, gave me a tour of the inside of the house. Oh man, what an experience seeing some of the old original light fixtures, etc that EP had installed. In every nook and cranny there were photographs of EP being in that nook and cranny. It was great. I was so sorry years later that the house had been sold and during some remodeling there was a fire. Not sure what exactly happened after that. It was such a privilege to visit that house and get to see the interior. I remember Cindy telling me that they had accidentally bumped into a wall and accidentally tearing the wallpaper…only to discover underneath some wall paper that EP had installed…of musical notes. They were working on uncovering further sections of it without damaging it. That was history and felt so surreal to me.

I was fortunate enough to be able to tour through the house with my wife while Mr. Freeman owned it. What a fantastic feel for the Fifties! My wife and I have been to Memphis five times.

I have visited this home from the outside only in Sept of 2011 and May of 2016. It is in a very upscale neighbourhood. I have a picture from a magazine with many teen age fans standing outside the little gates back in the 50's. No one that I know of lives here. It is back from the road and the shade of the trees gives it a private look. A lovely home.

I got a personal tour of the house from Mike and his then wife, Cindy in 2002 during Elvis week. They were very kind and courteous and allowed me to take lots of photos. I also bought a big box of memorabilia from them, mostly newspapers from the month of Elvis' death.

Thanks - it's an architectural example of MidCentury that I'm quite interested in and actually use in my own home decor design, in combination with current elements, textures, and colors. ... a treasure ❤

Great video and stories about Elvis and his family and what they had to deal with at the time from the music business and from a public that couldn't accept their rise from poverty to gaining more wealth than their so-called well off neighbours. I think nobody can really understand how difficult it must have been for Elvis and his family to go from extreme poverty to amazing fame and wealth. It must have been really difficult to adjust to and possibly Elvis never really did!!!!!
@Cynthia000073 жыл бұрын
From one extreme to another extreme it had to be extremely hard for ELVIS and his parents, especially GLADYS, going from "rages to riches" overnight. ELVIS quickly, was able to bring the three Of them out of poverty with his first movie earnings. He didn't want his mother to ever need to work again. ELVIS MADE THAT DREAM A REALITY FOR SURE❣️ ELVIS WAS ALWAYS TCB⚡TLC⚡❣️ BE AT PEACE SWEET 😇 🙏🙏 9-28-2021

I can understand the neighbors not appreciating crowds, traffic, over parking, trampling their lawns, blocking driveways, noise and disturbance. Would you like it?

I was there last year, just me and my wife. As a lifelong Elvis fan (since Hound Dog/Don’t Be Cruel), it was absolutely surreal. One neighbor did walk by with his dog. I guess I expected some kind of Southern friendliness (being from the Northeast)…not a chance, I guess the snootiness never left.

Man,did Elvis really think he was going to have privacy away from the fans by buying this house? I mean its a nice little house,but its the kind of house that regular people would live in,not a guy like Elvis.Its a bit on the small side and didnt have a big fence or wall around it back in the 50's.Also,its not hidden by a lot of trees in the front either.A nice place,but definetly not the type of home for a rock star.I'm a bit surprised Elvis bought this place.
@KingRoseArchives5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure he was thinking about being mobbed by fans. His success was a relatively new experience and this house was a huge move up from public housing. The crowds did make it untenable and as his success grew he moved to what would be called Graceland. It is a rags to riches story.

Margaretha Rydberg Hi there, thank you so much for sharing this information with everyone ❤️ I’m going to Memphis next year for Elvis week alone unfortunately as my friend I was supposed to be going with can’t make it for health reasons! So I was going to advertise to try and get someone local (an Elvis fanatic like myself) who could keep me company and take me around all of the various places Elvis used to frequent. I would obviously pay them for their trouble and hopefully make a lifelong Elvis friend along with the bargain too 😬 this guy seems to be exactly who I’m looking for, if I give you my email would you possibly be able to give me his contact details OR if your not comfortable in doing that maybe give him my email please?! It would be greatly appreciated if you could do this for me if possible. Kindest regards Louise x ⚡️T.C.B ⚡️

And for the conclusion of the story, when Elvis got back home and found out how “greatly offended” the surrounding neighbors were, about “his kind”, he said “Hell, if the whole neighborhood’s so damn uppity about my family living on their street than we don’t need to be getting the Hell one of here how!”
