We wanted one of this to see the critters in our backyard. kzbin.infoUgkxGix1RueFf66g4dKZ0w4Qsw_3Vv6Xqant The first thing that I like about this is that it has a rechargeable battery. The other is that it is small and fairly easy to use. The instructions weren't too great but we played with it awhile and figured it out. Can see very well in our back yard down to the woods which is roughly a football field length in the dark. There were certainly more expensive ones out there but this works for us and was within our price range. We have not tried the video recording portion and may update the review later.

I don’t get why people get so excited about the aurora. It’s basically a gen 1 NV device. It sees in the IR spectrum but doesn’t amplify light. But also has the downside of frame rate, digital delay, and poor battery life. Just buy a cheap gen 1 tube if you’re fine with relying on a supplemental IR light to be able to see lol. Same performance with less downsides.
@chistinelane11 ай бұрын
It does amplify light, delay is negligible, and can see in color, record, has a HUD for navigation, a reticle, can stream video and location data to other auroras/phones, and can see further into IR than analog

@tripplewhipper2 жыл бұрын
The sionyx has it's issues, once ambient light drops off your performance drops drastically not to mention dealing with funky mounting solutions, latency and drastically less runtime. Best budget option and bang for your buck is if you save up for a pvs14 with photonis tubes. You will have a huge increase in performance but at a large discount from gen 3 costs and you likely wont see much difference in performance for most situations vs a gen 3 until ambient lighting drops off significantly. Take a look at the comparison videos by hoplopfheil and trexarms you'll see for yourself. At the end of the day it is merely an action camera that has been adapted for low light usage, it is not true night vision and it surely doesn't perform like true night vision, many who have run a sionyx and have tried even a budget pvs14 have jumped ship and questioned even spending the money on a sionyx setup in the first place. I know i looked into the sionyx when i was getting into the night vision but there just simply isnt much of a comparison to a true analog night vision device. Now thats not to say that technology for digital systems won't catch up but it certainly isnt there yet at least not for man-portable systems.
@Tjcarbon92 жыл бұрын
Use an IR flashlight. I'm not sure why you think suggesting "saving up" 6x-8x more for a pvs14 setup is useful advice to someone just getting into the market for NVG. This is perfect for those that aren't stupid enough to drop $4k on a pvs14 setup without even knowing if they'd enjoy NVG. But since you're talking about obvious shortcomings, a pvs14 cant record video. Something I find handy during night hog and coyote hunting...
@johnc53302 жыл бұрын
I've got pretty high spec wp photonis echo tubes in my RNVG. The low light issues are really only prevalent when it's pitch black. Like in a basement with no light at all. Even then you can still see well enough to move/shoot. The sionyx is a waste of money. Unfortunately there really is nothing cheap when it comes to night vision. When you realize how much everything else costs, the pvs14 is the only "budget" option.
@chistinelane11 ай бұрын
ok, well, mine is serving me prefertly. I even drove with it the other day, looking for moose. Full color with the half moon and everything. I could see other cars coming from a mile away with how IR sensitive it is too! It's better than the naked eye by far and that's enough for 90% of people. There are more important things to spend money on than just "more performance " I don't understand why people understand this principle with everything but night vision. You don't save up 5 years to afford a supercomputer just because it has higher performance

Love ya NUTN, mean it but there's a reason nobody serious is doing it this way. A PVS 14 with a passive red dot and an IR light (not bought from Amazon) is the cheapest you can do this. It's going to cost $3500 for a PVS, $600 for a red dot that's IV capable and $300 for a light. If spending $5k is too much, learn more about low light use of white lights.
