A 7,000 head dairy farm in Michigan uses one of these and it's crazy seeing how fast the farmers can finish their fields

I guess it makes you look richer. It's like when you buy a potato harvester and comparing it to a potato harvester that you attach to your tractor much cheaper but less wide so this merger is like the Vermeer baler tractor thing well you get the idea it just makes you look richer. And for the price I'd rather get a 5 meter windrow for like 50 horses and take a compact tractor, so that's my point of view.
@ryanstull19746 жыл бұрын
Xav Nad I see your point but there are many pluses to a machine like this. Speed, not running over crop, and easier to opeRate when running a lot of acres. If you see my point

@Rubelkoenig11 жыл бұрын
Link is unavailable :/ But Fortschritt constructed one of those big mergers, some say it´s the prototype of the Krone BigM, also the Fortschritt E290, could also be a Prototype, if you look it´s from 1975 and it was able to fill a 12-tons-trailer in 3-5 minutes

that looks amazing and fast - are the rubber mounted tines easy to get at and replace?

They showed it running in grass, but if you're buying this, your silaging alphafa and corn, both while 'wet'. At the speeds they were showing, it wouldnt take much to bog down a 100 hp engine. For dry hay, I would say this was over kill ;)

@FergH-K12 жыл бұрын
a steering wheel is better for going long distance, i.e. along a field, it means you don't have to keep them pushed forward. I think most farmers would be used to a steering wheel because it is very much like a forager cab.
@DrentseRedneckOfficieel11 жыл бұрын
Why isn´t there some kind of shield that ensures that the grass flies not too far away so that the windrows become too wide?
@lucasbauman28647 жыл бұрын
it would have to be over 4m wide to be too wide for a big chopper, with a decent operator you'll never have that problem
@nibizsw313 жыл бұрын
Why use that instead of a Krone Big M wich cuts it and puts it in to a row in one turn.

Looks like it's pretty hard on the hay, raising a lot of chaff
@crystalballer798311 жыл бұрын
oh sorry. I misread your post. Yes, you are very correct! LOL I was saying this could be done in 2 days with the merger, which is what you were saying as well. Guess these are not an international thing. And, granted, unless you are a large dairy operation or a custom silage contractor, there is not a lot of justification to owning a large scale merger. More of a niche market. Personally, I think Oxbo does it the best. I have run several brands and find theirs to be the most intuitive machine.
@Jaydw411 жыл бұрын
you'd be surprised what kind of hp you need for a self propelled unit, especially in hilly fields, self propelled sprayers are the same deal

@jdman2kp But why make silage insted of hay then?
@andrew-125345 жыл бұрын
So why don’t they just put outer mergers straight onto the forage harvester.. it will save you having to go through fields again
@quadarinxxx11 жыл бұрын
That might be so, but i swear there is more efficient ways to rake, without the need for 250hp! The machine is nice, by all means. Its just i believe a 4rotor rake (up to 15m working with) pulled by a 120-150hp tractor would be (i think) more efficient. This does look comfortable to use though! no more sore neck. hehe Btw. who the hell have 200hectares of grass??? must have a mega dairy to feed then?
@scottmattingly96435 жыл бұрын

I've noticed in several parts of the video, that the new thrown windrow it makes, is layed over on top of a windrow on the ground that has not been picked up yet by this machine, so basically, it's burying that "un-picked up" windrow! It sure looks like to me that it would knock off alot of hay leaves from the stems, which is a vital nutrient or vitamin for livestock, such as cattle! Sweet design of uh machine, though! Betchya it is uh very expensive machine!
@starks14148 жыл бұрын
If you going to use a harvester to pick it up why not just swath your hay with a 30 foot swather? Lots of money wasted in your hay process
@handykeppy73338 жыл бұрын
when you lay hay in a 30ft swath your alfalva/grass "hay"wont dry.
@starks14148 жыл бұрын
+Handy Keppy that hay is no where near dry and the video said it was for a chopper so why use a discbine to cut it? Just use a swather
@paulbouwman2298 жыл бұрын
+Aaron Starko when your chopping for silage the grass/ alfalfa has to dry to around 65% moisture for it to ferment properly. When you mow 30ft in one row the middle of the row doesn't dry.
