Oxford Tunnel History And Concerns

For over a decade the Oxford tunnel has been my favorite place to walk to *collapsing and unsafe, the Manuka Chunk tunnel became my regular hike *the rock collapse, now the Pequest viaduct is my go to spot to hike.

I explored the tunnel about 30 years ago. I only went in a short distance due to flooding and debris from cave ins. I went with a couple of senior executive from AT&T. While climbing through the rocks near the entrance I saw a couple of snakes and advised my friends to keep and eye out for the snakes. The senior VP guy just about wet his pants and left abruptly. He was afraid of snakes.

The work on I-78 at Jugtown Mountain is to build slow moving vehicle lanes, not for rockfall mitigation.

The state claims that it's a rock mitigation project but I do not believe it.

It’s not just the cold water, last vid I saw of guys going thru in waders was the thick mud. They sad it was arduous. But there were ghostly voices too 👻🚂

Look at that garage in NYC with holes in the concrete looking down at the Amtrak tracks. Both closed till inspected. Of course the matter was structural with the metal beams.

I was working the third trick at West End Tower the night in Summer 1967 when that thunderstorm washed out the Old Road west of the tunnel. That storm was the worst T-storm I every lived through.
