Hi, I was just wondering what getting a “special diploma” from the University of Oxford means. Is it the same as getting a College Degree and is it enough for someone to get a Master’s at Wharton University?

Hi Neska - It was great to see some of the highlights of Oxford, I absolutely loved visiting there, it certainly is special. It must have felt very surreal being back, I know those who have attended Oxford University and while rewarding it was a very intense experience. Well Done on taking time out when you needed to, there is no shame in that and it takes great courage to do what is right by you. We can be grateful and thankful for our experiences and yet not want to go back and relive them. We take what we can from them and move forward with our lives. Wishing you all the best with your dreams x :-) stay safe and well

Aw thank you so much! Your comment made me tear up 🙂. Yes, I had a very love-hate relationship with Oxford. It was beautiful but quite stressful. Through all that experience, I became a happier and wiser person in the end though!

Thank you for this. I’m going to be starting PPE at Oxford in October and I’ve been struggling to feel excited for the longest time, weighed down by the dread of the workload, pressures and stresses it feels I’m promised. So it’s safe to say that reading that “no” at the end of the video made my heart sink for a second. However, I also know that I’ve been in similar environments to Oxford before in terms of academic stress and expectation, and, eventually, excelled, even if at times it felt really, really tough. I am grateful that I am able to live in the moment, most often when I’m surrounded by nature (which you showed Oxford has a beautiful lot of). I am also finding myself becoming a little more excited day by day, to the point where today I had to freak out for a second because I literally couldn’t contain my joy. Your advice to celebrate trying really hit home for me, and I hope to carry that throughout my time at Oxford so hopefully I never regret it. I’m sorry you had such a hard time, and truly understand where you’re coming from in terms of the stress to depression pipeline, but I’m glad you saw the light in it - finding your friends. I hope you’re much happier and at peace with your life now. Wish me luck.

Thank you for the comment! ❤️ I’m sorry I made you less excited for a moment. The Oxford environment is certainly not for everyone but just the fact that you’re already managing your expectations will probably make your experience much better than mine. Also if it makes you feel any better, when I was at Oxford some time ago, PPE students seemed to have the lightest workload and had lots of fun! It’s most likely still the case 😅. Mindset-wise, when it gets hard, please keep reminding yourself that Oxford is a bubble of some of the brightest and most hardworking students in the world so don’t ever doubt your own intelligence or capabilities. Even though I would not want to relive the whole experience again, I am certainly proud of what I have achieved and grateful for the many doors it has opened for me. Most importantly, it made me who I am today, and I love the person I have become. I hope Oxford will do the same for you ❤️.

@@neska1348 Thank you so, so much for that reply. That did actually make me feel a lot better, and the possibility of a (relatively) light workload is such a relief. I’ve heard that from current PPE students as well so hopefully it should ring true while I’m there! I think your video was beautiful and it’s equally beautiful how you’re able to appreciate that you wouldn’t be where or who you are today without having attended Oxford, despite its challenges - a true silver lining moment! I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t still more scared than excited. When I found out I got an offer back in January, I felt elated for about a minute and then quickly felt numb for weeks afterwards. I was so disappointed in myself, in my reaction. For some reason, that uncontainable joy I was expecting only seemed to come through in random, sporadic moments over the next few months. So, I’m trying to learn more about myself and how my mind and emotions may not always react to big life events the way I’d like or expect them to. And that’s okay, because there’s no rule book. We’re complicated beings, with complicated feelings, and as long as we give ourselves the grace to feel at our own pace, we can handle anything.

Thank you so much for sharing your oxford experience with us. I went to a similar academic institution which is also highly ranked in my country and I have very similar sentiments to you. As rewarding and nostalgic as it seems in the hindsight, I will never forget how anxiety-inducing and stressful the actual experience was.

Hello!! The vlog was beautiful for me and nostalgic for you I guess...Could you please say some tips about giving away a personal statement and other entry requirements as I am a young aspirant hoping to study at Oxford...
@neska13483 жыл бұрын
Heyo! Thanks for the comment! Entry requirements depend on the course and can be found on the Oxford website. www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/courses/admission-requirements As for personal statement tips; passion for the subject needs to come through and should be evidenced e.g. quote books you’ve read, any extracurricular projects you’ve done, or any related internships. Also, it is read by professors that read hundreds of them daily so I would suggest you make it personal :) - e.g. tell an interesting story on what inspired you to apply for this particular subject at Oxford, and what you aspire to do with the degree after! Hope this helps!

Thank you for making this. I know you made it a while ago but I came across it today. I have an offer from oxford but I'm not sure if I want to take it up. I have another good option which I always imagined I would go to but since getting an offer from oxford I find it hard to think of turning it down. At the same time oxford has always scared me because I fear it will have a really bad impact on my mental health.
@neska13483 жыл бұрын
Hi Allie, thanks for your comment and congrats on getting an offer! I would ask myself whether I would regret not taking the offer at some point in my life and decide based on that 😊… But to answer that question, I would also factor in whether a degree specifically from Oxford would help me achieve what I want after graduating. After all, formal education is there to help us get the career we want 😅.

This was a beautiful video! I also have suspended from Oxford for a year, and was wondering how it felt coming back? Do you have any advice or tips on settling back in, or any new mindsets you tried to implement thatt helped?
@neska13482 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Hope you’re resting well during your year out. What I thought helped me was VERY casually prepping for exams in advance, like making notes etc. I was put on antidepressants for a while which helped too. As for mindsets, I focused on trying my best every day by sticking to a reasonable routine rather than results. Also, please know that suspension is more common than talked about and there is an FB group for suspended students, to help you feel less alone. Wishing you all the best ❤️

Hi. I‘m from Austria and wanna help some students here to start studying in Oxford because a lot of them are smart and wanna study there. Would it be possible to have a short call, Video-Call, connect on Social Media or something to answer some questions? Would be nice and thank you for sharing your vlogs. They are very interesting. :-)

Hi, I don’t do calls. But if you drop me an email on neska.public@gmail.com, I’d be happy to answer your questions there. That being said, it’s been a while since I graduated and even longer since I applied so some processes may now be different. I would suggest maybe finding some reddit groups with current Oxford students that could answer your questions with more up to date information.
