This is the best lecture i have been looking for! Some videos won’t explain the differences between the words and phrases and how to use these words or phrases, the lecturers just ask you to memorise them to increase your vocabulary, in the end , students try to use the big words which are seldom used by native speakers in their daily conversations.

Nice practice, Joao! Here are a few suggestions for you: 1) 'I popped out to get some drinks at...' not, 'I popped out something to drink at...' 2) '...at the supermarket,' not, 'at supermarket.' 3) '...my homework. I am going to...' not, '...my home work I am going to...' Hope this helps you!

@Oxfordonlineenglish1 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! Here are some corrections for you: 1) 'Come along' means to go with you/someone. Therefore, it would be better to say something like: 'As soon as my parents get to the airport...' not, 'come along'. 2) '...John heads off with his friends...' or, '...John heads off to the hotel,' not, '...John heads off his friends at the hotel'. 3) 'If you make a shopping list...' not, 'a list of shopping'. Hope this is useful for you!

I've noted that when we use phrasal verbs with non English native speakers, they often don't understand what we mean whereas with English native speakers sometimes I try some new phrasal verbs that I learnt and they understand. There are some phrasal verbs who are very uncommon that even English native speakers might not understand, so I think we should learn all the common phrasal verbs.

It's difficult for everyone, Alex! As far as I'm aware there's nothing exactly like phrasal verbs in other languages (if anyone knows more and can enlighten me on this, I'd be interested to hear about it). So, they're a big challenge for people from all over the world.
@alexdclopes1973

The phenomenon of phrasal verbs occurs a little in the Portuguese language. It is more common in colloquial Portuguese spoken here in Brazil. Example: "Não quero mais saber de você! Cai fora!". Verbo cair + advérbio fora (cair fora = sair, retirar-se) I don’t want to know about you anymore! Get out! ". Verb to fall + adverb out (cair fora = leave, get out); -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Depois de ter sido xingada, ela partiu para cima dele com uma faca." Verbo partir + advérbio para cima (partir para cima = atacar algo ou alguém). "After she was cursed, she went off with a knife at him." Verb To Go + adverb. Up. (partir para cima = attack someone or something). Sorry for my poor english....I'm just a beginner!

Hello I can hear Maria saying 'ofTen, an Daniel saying 'of(t)en (the 't' isn't heard). (The same way it sounds [isn't sound] in 'listen'). Isn't Daniel's way the correct one, and... isn't it odd to hear two people teaching the same language, on the same video, uttering slowly and clearly the same word differently?

Great question, Naftali! This is a difference in native English speakers' pronunciation. 'Often' is pronounced both with the 't' sound and without the 't' sound. This is a person-by-person preference, and not necessarily specific to one accent. Both are acceptable.

@@Oxfordonlineenglish1Thank you. On the same note, what about the 'p' in 'emPty'. As far as I know it should be silent, shouldn't it? And, the last q. (for now): I heard an English lesson over the net, where the letter H was pronounced as "Haidge", rather than "Aige"/"Age". Isn' that wrong? Do you have a lesson on this subject? Thanks
