Oxnard named one of the most neighborly cities in the nation

While it's known for its festivals, summer concerts and sandy beaches, many that live in Oxnard thank the sense of community for making it one of the nicest places to live in. Joy Benedict reports.

Is this a joke? Although there are some nice neighborhoods like River Park, Oxnard has huge gang and drug problems. Several times a week, people are shot and killed. It's funny that you would show the transportation center....just this summer two people were found one morning sitting on a bench there, having been shot, killed and left.

I’ve lived in my neighborhood for 35 years and everyone else has been there at least 15 years as homeowners. Everyone keeps to themselves, and some of them love to gossip about other neighbors. I‘ve been reported to Code Compliance by these lovely neighbors whenever I’m putting in some work to my house. CC approves what I’m doing and even helps me out with tips on how to get the work done. With the kind of neighborly neighbors I have, I need to be walking on eggshells at all times. It really sucks.😡

This is just as funny as LA being named one of the top 5 cities to move to in CA. I lived in Oxnard since the 70s til we moved and it's horrible. I worked for the county, the amount of corruption that goes on is staggering. Crime is still steady, not as much as it was in the 80s/90s but then again the city does not file with the state department all of its crimes / homicide. I've known various people who were affective, including myself by senseless murders. The mayors throughout the years just put on a mask of charades. The people of Oxnard can vary depending where you live or venture out to. Not all are a ray of sunshine, which amount to the crimes and destruction of neighborhoods. There are those who try to do right within the community and are kind, but that can only go so far.

I moved here from Santa Barbara 7 years ago, and really enjoy everything Oxnard has to offer. Didn't think I was going to like Oxnard, but I love it! The beaches are clean, and the people are so friendly. I am proud to say, I live here.

Beaches aren’t clean 😢 people are just trashing our beaches, specially Port Hueneme beach. My daughters and I go from time to time and pick up lots of plastic bottles thrown on the floor, cans and trash. I don’t see anybody doing this, people just pass us by looking at us like freaks smh

If you count the 20 people who live in each house as neighbors, then yeah I can see it. I don’t think the crime rates reflect a neighborly vibe, every day dozens of robberies, stealing, drunk hit and runs and the weekly murder. This city is what, less than 10 blocks in either direction, but worth more crime than probably the whole rest of the county.
