Andy's decision to do this "two characters in one" thing is such a fun and interesting idea. Robin is a genuine and likable lad who didn't ask for this so the party wants to keep him safe, and Morven is very useful so the party likes having her around. What a cool concept that I can't remember seeing elsewhere, huge props to Andy for cooking that one up. Can't wait to see how it develops

I like the debt rolls at the end. I don't mind no one has an envelope yet. It puts me more on edge during the session. Everytime they cast I'm practically yelling "Magic is unstable! Your debt your debt!" 😂
@Gggly2513
@Gggly2513 3 ай бұрын
I almost wonder what it would be like if Johnny were the one keeping marks for everyone’s debt and rolling the die… all the players would be casting spells and know it will bite them at some point, but not knowing what will tip them over the edge, or even if they’ve tipped at all, until Johnny hands them an envelope. Would probably be less exciting for the players since they don’t get to roll the cool die at the end. But I imagine having that tension of unknown would be really cool, and also make it feel like magic going awry is even more out of their control when the dm as a third party is the one knowing when they’ve overstepped, like the vibe of the characters not knowing that a deal has been broken until the wildfolk get angry
@dominateeye
@dominateeye 3 ай бұрын
@@Gggly2513 That would also allow Johnny to roll the debt die each time the character's debt increases, which I feel is more in line with how the debt consequence has been shown to us through NPCs. That guy at the Folkmoot, for example, didn't turn into the monster late at night after he'd gone to bed having racked up his debt so much, he faced the consequences immediately after provoking the wrath of magic. Rolling the die at the end of each session is more of a mechanic decision than a lore/worldbuilding/story decision. Which is well within Johnny's rights as the DM and creator of the setting, of course, but it is inconsistent in a noticeable way for me.
@baseballjustin5

Johnny has pulled off an absolutely brilliant episode here with references to real English and Irish folklore. The gabbleratchets are, exactly as described, wolven creatures with the head of a human, whose howls are supposed to portend death in the folklore of northern England, particularly East Yorkshire around the Calder Valley, but reaching up to Cumbria and down to Sheffield. The Dullahan or Dullachan is an Irish folklore of a headless rider who bears a whip made of a human spine, and who brings death. And the “death cart”, sometimes called the cart-a-bower or the silent cart is supposed to be a cart which collects the souls of those who have been decided to die in Irish, English, and Scottish folklore. In Ireland it was believed to be driven by a Dullahan, and it was said that ‘once the death cart and Dullahan had come to earth, they cannot return empty’ as a folklore for the inevitability of death. It’s believed to occasionally be seen on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh collecting the souls of the dead. All told a fantastic story blending real life folklore into the world, and mixing different stories together to make something chilling - a much scarier version of the ‘death on his white horse carrying a scythe’ motif people would be familiar with.

You all have LEVELLED UP! The scene as the mules take off with the wagon is maybe the most heroic thing in Oxventure yet (and I do NOT say that lightly). Everyone was just on point. Robin rushing to the reigns without hesitation, Lug leaping off the wagon to protect the NPCs, not knowing if he would survive himself or what will happen on the cart but trusting these strangers to handle it, Willowfine instinctually and instantly protecting the young boy, with Happen firing arrows from the moving cart and Cressida getting over her travel objections and diving right into the fray. I could see it all the way Luke said he wished he could see DnD in real time and I was completely caught in the moment. It was so incredible to watch this episode. The first episode was all anticipation and meeting the new world with the new characters and learning how this was all going to look and feel. The second episode was the first little intro to the adventure and I was hooked on the mystery of the story and wondering what the heck was going on in the great wide yonder. But THIS episode showed me the team; the characters and the players. Everyone is smooth as fuck and I am so excited for the rest of this campaign.

@@knowlessman if they don't want robin gaining much hp, they could nerf it like rolling a d4, so robin can only gain 1 to 4 hp a level. If the others are getting a lot more hp when they level up, I think gaining at least a little would be fair. Even 27 hp is super vulnerable against certain enemies. I had a super weak level 7 character with only 27 hp, and they died. I think robin only has 10 hp, maybe less? I just looked it up, and he only has 4 hp. I'm guessing his extremely low hp is intentional to allow a switch, still, I think a point or two would be nice when all the characters level up. It's kinda sad that Robin's own body lacks all the hp and skill that it somehow has when morwen takes control. Robin does like honey in his official description, so maybe he'll become more adept at bee keeping, collecting honey, or something sweet or food themed. Or maybe robin will never level up but will just develop his personality and utility as a weak but resilient normal man. Apparently, they already recorded the 1st season.

Okay now you guys in the comments, should also told Mike about that Lug's Reckless Attack too, because that was the main attribute for playing Barbarian which Mike not used at all in this 3 episodes, so he could start using it on Season 2 just in case he didn't use it at all for the remaining episodes of Season 1.

I feel like there might be a slight misunderstanding of how percentile dice work. I could clear it up for you, I'll type it out below, but of course if you're not interested in that then please feel no obligation to click on "read more". . . . . . . When you roll percentile dice and you toss the two d10s, they will produce one of 100 different and unique combinations to give you a number between 1 and 100. Every single one of those combination numbers has an equal chance to be rolled, exactly the same as when rolling a d100. The chances of rolling a 00 on the first percentile die are 1 in 10. Rolling that 00 means that whatever you get on the second die will leave you between 1 and 9 (and then also 100 if you get 00 and 0 because we want these going from 1-100 instead of 0-99, so we treat 000 as 100). Rolling a d100, you still have a 1 in 10 chance to roll any of the numbers that you could get from a 00 on the percentile die. That's 1-9 and 100, 10 numbers over 100 possibilities. Equal to 1 in 10. Exact same probability, not a thing changes. You can feel safe making your 2d10 percentile rolls, they are identical to the 1d100! Just without the dramatic *thud.*

Every episode in this series gets better and better. I originally played this while doing some housework and life admin... 20 minutes in it had my undivided attention and everything had stopped, bravo!

@12:16 Happen, rule one of the cult is never call the cult a cult. That's like cult 101. Every cultist in the cult knows not to refer to the cult as a cult.

I love how they describe the guy with the leather circle with twine every single time. It’s a fantastic way of describing the guy while keeping the mystery alive.

Really enjoying this one and I'm having to play catch up with the episodes. We lost power on the 27th thanks to Helene and while we finally got it back on the 4th, I only just got internet back yesterday and have had a lot of catching up to do with various things. It's nice to be able to finally watch these and relax a little bit. I have to chime in that I love y'all giving Jurassic Park III some love. It's my second favorite of the trilogy after Jurassic Park itself. Oh no. The amount of swearing I did with the hunting party, and then what Michael had. Nice twist there. I'm relieved the kids and the father weren't part of the party. I felt sure they would turn on the group. Loving the weird guy repeatedly showing up and I can't wait to find out more about him. The failed roll to knock Robin out absolutely sent me.
