@@Beyondthepress I'm sorry, technically each of your cameras is a different take of the same scen. I think we had good luck with us to be able film that. I think my high tech blowtorch broom made the mixture on some points slower to make slow combustion possible before explosion.
@Nighthawkinlight5 жыл бұрын
Could be! But I bet your mix was correct in the whole balloon. The transition from slow combustion to detonation is common in certain types of explosives. It even has an acronym: DDT. Some explosives will burn slowly in small quantities, but if you get a big enough pile it reaches a critical mass where the burn turns to real detonation. I've seen many such explosions, but I've never seen a camera quick enough to capture it happening.

A spark plug placed up through the center of the metal setup with a simple old car ignition coil so you can trigger the explosion in the center of the bubble with no camera obstruction from a torch would be amazing video. The flame front would be seen from all sides expanding from the middle out in a hemisphere shape. You could mix in a little of other gases to change the color and or speed of the burn. I have used spark plug to set off items being photographed in the past and it just looks better without ignition sources in the way of the camera and you can trim the end of the mettle so the spark happens to the side of the center electrode and shows well at the very start of the ignition on camera.

The point where the blue propagating flame front suddenly transitions to a shock and a yellow/red dispersion of flame fringes. That is the transition from stoichiometric deflagration to detonation. Wow Tesla500 really got in shape since I last saw him, he looks good. The expanding blue patterned flame front is displaying classic Rayleigh--Taylor hydrodynamic instability at the interface between the high density shock front and the surrounding lower density uncombusted gas mix, it is a severe problem that has bedeviled laser driven inertial confinement fusion research on imploding deuterium-tritium microcapsules for over 4 decades now. The sequence beginning at 6:00 is highly intriguing to me and appears to show a transition from simple propagating deflagration wave to a true detonation (the intense acceleration of the water droplets as you note is evidence of a powerful shock wave). I would really like to see much more investigation on what is actually occurring here! I bet with further videos you may even be able to observe other more exotic effects such as Richtmyer-Meshkov instability in the shock front. Most delightful videos.

Wow, I think you just showed us the difference between burning the acetylene and having it explode all in one shot. I never got into studying the flame front in combustion properly, but I believe this is the same thing as what can happen during a detonation or pinging event in an internal combustion engine. The flame front has started to burn, then the rest of the mixture has auto ignited. The severe pressure wave caused by this impacts the block and causes the block to ring, making the sound known as pinging. It does explain why this is so loud.
@olawlor5 жыл бұрын
Exactly--deflagration to detonation transition. Acetylene-oxgyen detonation velocity is almost 3000 m/s. It's amazing being able to watch the flame front switch from slow unstable blue deflagration to blinding white detonation!
@johanssonb5 жыл бұрын
I guess you're right but inside an ICE cylinder it's the flame front pressing the remaining fresh mixture against the walls what causes it to self-ignite. How can the same thing happen here without any physical walls? Is it that the deflagration's flame front has become supersonic by the time the transition takes place?
@tx5brent5 жыл бұрын
You will find it is the difference in volatility of the two different fuels. You wouldn't get this to happen in open air with a petrol vapour mixture.

@@johanssonb 6:05 I think the expanding blue flame front is compressing the remaining mixture (against the air outside), and radiatively heating it, until the unburned mixture detonates. Awesome footage. I'm pretty sure the acceleration of the reaction is happening because of a deflagration to detonation transition where the pressure generated by the reaction is causing the velocity of the wave to accelerate beyond the speed of sound through the mixture. Once combustion is supersonic, the gas mixture is able to react almost completely before it even begins moving. This is why the velocity of the reaction increased so dramatically halfway through the big bubble. Thanks for this incredible footage. Long-time fan of the Hydraulic Press Channel!

Lauri: "I think we are not going to make bigger one." That doesn't sound like the Lauri we know. 😉👍

I once filled a latex glove to regular balloon size and blew it in the new year, after the explosion you could hear snow falling off the neighbours roof 30meters away :D

That was spectacular. The ring of bubbles was impressive, the way that blue flame chased around. I need to play with slow motion fire more.

330000fps/72=4583rps=275000rpm a.) If there exists a small electrical engine, that can spin that fast, you can film things like a standing wave in a vibration or a CD exploding from centrifugal force. b.) If that speed is too fast, you can still film slower with slower settings. c.) You could propell something by pressurized air instead of engine. Anything filming same speed as the rotation must be interessting. Even if you don’t, these videos are impressive.

Fantastic video! This is the first video I've seen of yours where I've seen what you look like. You're much younger than I thought. Keep the great videos coming!

Are you new to Beyond the Press Channel? If you are, feel free to binge watch their earlier videos. 😂

I’ve seen a bunch of their hydraulic press videos, but never seen an episode where they’ve shown their faces. So I guess you’re right, I’ll have to do some binge-watching!

Also check out Anni's vlog channel AnniVuohensilta where she has vids from HPC and BTP behind the scenes, mountain biking, travels, Finnish culture, and so forth, and Lauri is also often in those. 👍

If I were a billionaire I’d give these chaps 72 Phantom V2512s, which would be able to shoot over 2 million fps at 720p

Right lol "slowest camera on KZbin" lmao. They better change that title because light has been captured moving
@willguggn25 жыл бұрын
@@genraldmoney8171 This one is a continuous shot of a single event, not a billion precisely timed shots of a billion events-which wouldn't work to record something as chaotic as an explosion. (… and would take about a million year set up to do xD)
