I never learned how to weld. This is fascinating seeing actual production lines using oxwelding. Electric arc welding was years away. Hopefully Periscope has part 2 waiting to be digitized 🙂

While the big breakthrough for arc welding came only in the 1940s, the earliest forms (1880s) predate oxy-acetylene welding (1903).

My grandfather was an “Oxweld cutter” in the 1920’s and 30’s.

I still use Oxy-acetylene often, it's so sad that the current crop of "welders" are clueless when it comes to Oxy-acetylene fusion welding, the average modern observer thinks fusion welds are brazing.

i work on boilers and chillers and have to weld, braze lots of joints. i tell new guys to learn stick welding 1st because everything else is easier. hell tig is just oxy without the fire.
