That game is rough but also one of my favorite. It will make you fail a couple of times before you are able to make a sustainable colony. Understanding core aspects of the game like the priority system, skills & moral, and such is pretty important and you might want to look up tutorials about them. Even with that knowledge you will struggle :P

I think I’ve told you once before, and I have to say it again you are definitely my favorite KZbinr. Anyhow, I’m wondering how you enjoyed oxygen not included? Because if you enjoyed that the same developers have another game called mind over magic, and it looks very very good. Was wondering if you wanted to take a look at it and maybe do a let’s play of that? Let me know what you think.

The two things you will build the most are tiles and ladders. Get used to building tiles and ladders! Build tiles and ladders now! ;) Also, click on stuff to read their stats and descriptions more often. You need to know that information and data. In the late game, having memorised the melting point and specific heat capacity of sandstone can be important, but even in the beginning, there's plenty of stuff that's useful to know. For example, how many calories do your dupes consume per day (600 seconds, btw)? How much oxygen do they need per day? How much oxygen is in one tile of air, and how long will that last? How much oxygen is available for free in the starting oxilite? (That stuff only exists in the starting biome, btw!) Which resource does an outhouse consume? All that data is readily available either in the tooltips or the property window. Have a look at what buildings you can build without doing research. They are available from the beginning because they are important, all of them. So, why do you have access to a door? That thing can't be that important, it doesn't even block sound, light or airflow... (Hint: Look at the "rooms" overlay and read the benefits and requirements of the rooms listed in its legend.) And while I'm at rooms...did you notice how your snoring dupes disturbed the other one's sleep? (Those greyish marked tiles around her were the AOE of her snoring.) Maybe build a bed away from the others and assign it to her. The morale hit from sleep disturbances can easily be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Unhappiness can kill your colony just as fast as a lack of food or air. And about that washbasin: Dupes don't wash their hands (and do other things that are not on their task list) just because they have dirty hands. The washbasin (and other buildings like the atmo-suit dock) are "pass by", i.e. the dupes use them when walking by in a certain direction. This means that your toilets either need to have a basin on both sides or be in a cul-de-sac. Also, you need two toilets; otherwise, accidents will happen while the toilet is full and waiting to be cleaned (or while being cleaned---that takes ages). Two toilets can support 20 dupes if you stagger their schedule, but if they're all on the same schedule, you need one for every 2-3 dupes. The storage bin will only allow items that are set in the filter. It even spits out stuff instantly if you remove them from the filter. And yes, dupes will start to clean up the mess when there are no other jobs. But you should take a look at the priorities system. For one, with the button in the top right, you can get dupes to prefer certain kinds of jobs (usually, you set them to prefer vital stuff like life support and whatever they have the most skill in) and with individual job and building priorities (1-9 and "!!", in the properties window or with the tool in the lower right) you get them to do whatever you want to be done first. You can also set the priority when giving orders, that "1-9,!!" selector is there on the lower right (tools) or lower left (building). I always set my toilets and food stores to prio 9. Otherwise, it's too easy for all toilets to be full, causing the dupes to make messes everywhere (including your clean water supply!) and your food to rot wherever it dropped. Don't worry about dupes hurting themselves right now. There's not much that can hurt them. Fighting and temperature (and radiation if you have the DLC) are all that come to mind, but I may be missing something. But you need to worry about them doing stuff in the most idiotic order. If there are 20 places to stand while mining/building a tile, they will stand in the one place that will trap them 9 out of 10 times. This game may look cuddly and funny, but it has way more depth than e.g. Factorio---and here, that depth will kill you. ;)

PS: Most people will build floors 4 tiles high. That way, a dupe standing on the ground can reach all tiles of that floor but not the tiles that make up the ceiling and the next floor's ground. There are plenty of 4-tile high buildings, but only very few 5-tile high ones. And when building a ladder shaft, leave one tile of free space on each side of the ladder for the future. One for the firepole (fast downward transport) and one for the vacuum tubes (fast transport network). An exception are "storage bricks"---areas full of storage bins. As those are 2 tiles high, you can save quite some space by having 5 of those floors in the same space 3 normal floors take up. The decor there will be horrible, but your dupes aren't supposed to stand around there and soak it in any way. ;) Oh, didn't I mention that decor is important for your dupes' moods?

Oxygen not Included, episode 1 ! Comments... First of all, thank you for subbing to my channel, really appreciated ! 1) Duplicant selection: you just randomly selected your toons. This is VERY bad. Two of your toons are good at husbandry, which is good only in the midgame to raise animals; useless in early game. The other toon has "Loud Sleeper" trait whichbis awful, he will constantly wake up other toons sleeping nearby, unless ýou put him alone in a room. Consider restarting the game. 2) Good toons selection when startìng game: one toon great at digging, one good at building, one good at researching. 3) Do not dig up tiles made up of Oxylite; they release oxygen for a long time slowly if left alone, but if you dig them up, most of the O2 will be wasted 4) Exactly at 10:23,, your toon got hurt a bit because he was digging directly up and the tile directly above the tiled being mined was SAND which is a loose material always falling down unless supported.
@DrIncompetent Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for these tips! I will be more selective with my toons on my next save file haha ;) These are still going, but I had no idea and went in blind, so I just rolled rando haha ;) I see--thank you for explaining the sand! It looks like I made some massive mistakes with the oxylite whoops! I will leave that next time haha
@power2084 Жыл бұрын
@@DrIncompetent the problem is that you have no toon strong in basic operations: digging, building, researching. More toons will be available later but you will not be able to reroll them. You may have to wait an eternity until you get good ones. That's why it's important to have good toons to start with. I would restart but it's up yo you of course.

Mined oxilite will outgas the same amount of oxygen as oxilite tiles, they fixed that bug years ago. It just outgases slower, just like anything else is slower for "itemised" resources than for tiles.
