I have literally just watched Tutorial Bites Power- Generation in which you said " i will cover this in the tutorials of Rocket tunnels" and i thought, oh i can't wait for that one. i am wasting my heat and unsure how high to put my rocket platforms and then BAM! Another absolute banger of concise and relevant useful info to make my colony better. So much appreciation for all the work you're putting into these, is there anywhere we can see your remaining tutorial nugget topics? Maybe a sneaky hint to the next one your working on?

Thanks for the positive feedback! The master list for tutorial bites has been a text file on my computer, but since we've got only a few left I can say that they will be: Sandbox & Debug, Game Structure, Critters & Plants. The critters and plants tutorial bites will also be the summary/introduction video for the 2 new series where I'll cover each critter and plant species individually. So with those complete, I believe I've covered all of the major topics in ONI, certainly all the ones I could think of!

@@GCFungus Thanks for extensive reply, i'm looking forward to the critters video to find how to deal with Beetiny type critter which have been working away undistrubed for around 1000 cycles now. Their nests are looking juicy. One thing i have been struggling with in the DLC content in my base is overall organisation, a vid showing overall base layout tips like power spines, tube/ladder tunnels(?) and above all how to effectively manage your water/p-water without infinite storage. Just food for thought I'm so tired of fixing cooling loops and adding temporary solutions for storage or cooling using piping it's my new biggest hurdle to the game that is sucking my enthusiasm dry :(
@GCFungus
@GCFungus Жыл бұрын
@@dopey33 I did have that on my to do list, the problem was I couldn't find a narrative angle that actually added a lot of new content, and felt I would just end up referring to many of the existing tutorial bites that cover everything. I always use infinite storage, but you can simply have giant pools - the classic sized map is huge, and there's loads of space on the spaced out sized maps too. Once you have the proper aquetuner and steam turbine set-up, it should run fine forever so I'm not sure why you need to keep fixing them. I would suggest checking out my Most Dupes Record Run, which is very long but there are lots of ideas in there to help you put it all together.

@@GCFungus That's fair, i have one ethanol coolant loop as super cold for deep freezing and sleet wheat farming and another for general cooling like my bristle berry farms and then water systems to irrigate and for the super refinery then gysers go dormant and it messes with the supply, it's a mess! I think i'm looking for some kind of trick that i'm missing or some kind of "ONI life hack" to fix it but your right i just need to watch some good gameplay and pick up the little parts. I'm about 20 episodes into your all dupes run and staggered to see how many episodes behind i am (Valiant commitment and effort!) but i'll catch up and give each one a like to say thanks ofc :)

I love how you took the past few designs and ideas and put them together into marvelous creations! Really inspiring, had actually picked up the game just last week after you mentioned the idea of several steam chambers attached to a single room. Was boiling the idea around in my mind asking the best source of free heat. Just love what youve done, really fun.

Well I can't take credit for the concept idea as rocket tunnels are an established idea, but yeah it's neat to put together a number of concepts to make them, which is also why I consider them an advanced build. If you're getting this far after a week I'd say you're doing very well!

with fallout, you can take advantage of the heat deleting effect it has due to difference in heat capacity with gas and liquid. ethanol is the only other substance with heat deleting effect.

Why would anyone waste heat instead of feeding it to the turbines?

So you're telling me that a steam engine, which can hold at most 900 kg of steam, produces up to 2.5 t of it as exhaust when leaving the map? Seems a bit fiddly but it's technically another renewable source of water!

If you want to see an example of this in action, the youtuber Francis John built a massive rocket tunnel that produced enough water to flood an entire asteroid
@GCFungus
@GCFungus Жыл бұрын
Yes - in the base game though. The spaced out DLC steam engine holds 150kg total, so a 30kg launch and return can generate that 2.5tons! Must be some magic in there...

Started a new annoying map on max difficulties :( Which means I don't have access for reed fibers or plastics. I only have access to some iron for steel and a bunch of water. This steam design will help out a lot!

The idea that you can launch rockets into orbit without any cost is both amusing and feels a bit like cheating to me. It's like a perpetuum mobile. Don't you think this should be fixed?

I have a question - how far does the rocket exhaust reach in a space vacuum and transfer heat? I want to know how much Isolation do I need.
@GCFungus
@GCFungus Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure on the exact numbers because it does vary slightly with each engine type I think. At a guess I would say it's around 5 tiles either side, but a little further would be safe. My best advice would be to try it out and see where it gets to.

There's no reason why you couldn't combine the two, although you might lose some gas on launching. Plus the steam turbines need to be carefully placed.
@Tamizushi
@Tamizushi Жыл бұрын
@@GCFungus I think the most important concern would be heat since rockets can produce a lot more heat than industrial sonas usually can. I should lose a lot less gas to space than what the tunnel produces.

If a build is not tested at the very least for 300 cycles to be crash tested,I just dont trust it man. Anyone can jump into Sandbox and make crazy builds but not everyone does the crash test to troubleshoot any potential future issues,these might as well be seen as temporary setups. I have a Sandbox save file just for crash testing that I let run on the background while watching some vids or reading or watching a movie with sounds on to know if something goes wrong to immediately go and check it and troubleshoot.
@GCFungus
@GCFungus Жыл бұрын
That's a fair point, and for many of the builds I present in the series I have tested for significant amounts of time to ensure they work. For the rocket tunnels specifically I wanted to share the ideas as inspiration and leave it to the players to come up with their own designs - that's why I haven't presented them as complete builds with references. As rocket tunnels are an advanced topic, I hope that players attempting to build them have a reasonably matching level of experience to make it work!
