UNE Experience Day - MEAT SCIENCE
Elly Mitchell attended an Experience Day on Meat Science and Animal Research and Training where along with 15 other students she heard Dr Peter McGilchrist, a Senior Lecturer in Meat Science at UNE, give an overview of the study involved in this area. They went on to watch a butcher turn a beef carcass into food and discuss what muscles are the most tender and which ones are the toughest and why. How to ensure food is safe to eat and finally the whole group made and cooked their own burgers for lunch! YUM!
The Oorala Youth Program runs UNE Experience Days to assist Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander students in Years 10-12 to find out what university life and study is like.
