What an absolutely incredible song. This band has always been marvelous. Better than just about everything that's "considered" great and award-winning commercially. Those people just don't know a group like the Oyster Band exists. Their "Street of Dreams," is one of the best songs I have ever heard in my lifetime. With June Tabor -- they even elevated their status.

Both Oyster Band's original and Great Big Sea's versions are great. There's a slight difference between the two...John Jones goes lower on the second, third and fourth lines of each verse. It comes across throaty and sexy. Alan Doyle goes up (no pun intended) and sings an octave higher. This gives a more emotional appeal. I tend to believe that the GBS version sounds more like the singer means what he's singing about. Obviously this comes down to personal taste, but either way Jones and Co. have written a fantastic song.

Early 1970s?! This was written and recorded in 1993. The Oysters didn't even release their first album until 1980.
