WHY IS OZPIN SO GOOD AT MONOLOGUE
@Cailus35424 жыл бұрын
A wonderful little monologue, and it fits perfectly with the themes of the volume. Mind you, here’s another fitting little description of fear. “I know you’re afraid, but being afraid is all right. Because didn’t anybody ever tell you? Fear is a superpower. Fear can make you faster, and cleverer, and stronger. And one day, you’re gonna come back to this barn, and on that day, you’re going to be very afraid indeed. But that’s okay. Because if you’re very wise and very strong, fear doesn’t have to make you cruel or cowardly. Fear can make you kind. … It doesn’t matter if there’s nothing under the bed, or in the dark, so long as you know it’s okay to be afraid of it. So listen. If you listen to nothing else, listen to this: you’re always going to be afraid, even if you learn to hide it. Fear is like… a companion. A constant companion, always there. But that’s okay. Because fear can bring us together. Fear can bring you home. I’m gonna leave you something just so you’ll always remember. Fear makes companions of us all.”

Yes but you must remember Ozpin sacrificed a great portion of his magical power and divided it into four fractions which he gave to the original maidens as thanks. Thus when it comes to magic Salem has more as she is still at the same level as she was when the two originally fought (heck I think she actually got MORE powerful considering all the time and preparation she’s had. Coupled with the fact that her corruption from the pools of annihilation allowed her access to control Grimm her power is probably exponentially higher than it was before) and she’s pretty much the last living being from the Age Of Gods that has the power to use Magic in its full capacity so yeah. Unless Ozpin manages to regain his original power from the maidens I don’t see how he and Oscar would stand most of a chance against Salem. (Though to be fair it’s been stated that every living being has a semblance of some kind since semblances are extensions of the soul and are based on a person’s individuality and personality, and since Ozpin is technically the combination of all the likeminded souls he’s merged with he’s basically this crystallization of individuality thus making it so he’s probably got hundreds of semblances which might make up for the magic part)

Interesting how fear is in our most basic emotion in order to survive in a work like this to recognize those around us and to learn from mistakes to better ourselves and those around us. Very nice dialog especially in the times we live in now with chaos everywhere and people trying to get more greedy with power and influence over others. Also why trust and help are so important to ultimately forgive and achieve partial enlightenment.

Am I the only one who listened to this monologue I see it as Ozpin explaining why he lies and did what he did. He's afraid. Plain and simple. He's lived for so long and he's afraid that he makes connections and has to care for humanity, he gets so afraid when they look to him as a leader. That is why he lies. He's afraid...

Fear In my eyes the only emotion stronger than Rage And yet, despite it being weaker than Rage, Determination is the only thing that can overcome Fear It's a poetic rock paper scissors deal we have here Rock (fear) breaks scissors (rage) Scissors (rage) cut paper (determination) Paper (determination) covers rock (fear)

Even funnier, they said the theme of this volume is supposed to be Trust and the opening song of the volume is Trust Love. Yet the title of Chapter 13 is 'The Enemy of Trust.' There was supposed to be trust between RWBY and Ironwood but RWBY's keeping secrets from him out of fear that he may overreact, and Ironwood's paranoia tore them down.

Ozpin's monologue: The single quality that is common across every living creature on this planet, is fear. It's funny then, that as common as fear is... we so easily underestimate its power. Fear of growing close to someone, a subsequent fear of loss. Fear of failure. And as more people depend on you, those fears can take on greater power. But fear itself isn't worthy of concern - it is who we become while in its clutches. Will you be proud of that person? Will you forgive them? Will you understand why they felt the need to do the things they did? Will you even recognize them? Or will the person staring back at you be the very thing you should have feared from the start? I suppose we all find out... sooner or later.

A lot of this applies to Ozpin himself. 'Fear of growing close to someone'- perhaps his fear of bonding with someone with his longevity. 'Fear of loss, fear of failure'- Ozpin has experienced much and lost much as a result, and in his failures to find a permanent solution hindered his progress. 'Will you be proud of that person?' All of Team RWBY, JNPR, and Qrow aren't. 'Will you forgive them' Forgiveness isn't easy but necessary. If I was in the show, I most definitely would. 'Will you understand why they felt the need to do the things they did?' Again, I would. Though there is still much I don't understand, and the others clearly didn't bother to ask 'why?'. 'Will you even recognize them? Or will the person staring back at you be the very thing you should have feared from the start' James Ironwood is falling into this, but I would still understand him, even if some consider him as dangerous as Salem. Food for thought. I don't hate Ozpin, nor do I hate Ironwood. I am more angry at Yang and Qrow for not sticking by Ozpin, retreating into anger and alcoholism rather than having a semblance of compassion to understand. Ironwood, in turn, is making a rather pragmatic decision. I don't think its a good decision but he basically wants the same thing as the heroes, but maybe he needs to be proven wrong.

"Let me tell you about scared. Your heart is beating so hard I can feel it through your hands. There’s so much blood and oxygen pumping through your brain it’s like rocket fuel. Right now you could run faster and you can fight harder. You can jump higher than ever in your life and you are so alert it’s like you can slow down time. Scared is a superpower." The Doctor, 'Doctor Who' Episode 804 'Listen' Fear is not just good or bad. It is an influence, and we need to treat it right. Fear is what keeps us alive. I am afraid of getting injured, which is why I don't just wave a knife around wildly. I have a healthy fear of knives because it could injure me, and so I give it the respect it deserves and handle it with care. Healthy fear is respect and acknowledgement. The heroes of RWBY fight against Salem because they fear her; they acknowledge the power and influence she has, but still disagree with her motives. I acknowledge fear. I understand it has power, and I treat it accordingly. Or at least I try my best to. But yes, fear can go the other way as well. Fear, handled incorrectly, can transform us in ways we don't expect. Paranoia, avoidance, isolation, hatred. Fear created the Ironwood we see in Volume 8, the Lionheart we see in Volume 5, and a lot of the events and decisions we see in Volume 7. As is also said in that Doctor Who episode I quoted at the start of this comment, "Fear is a constant companion", no matter whether we may want to or not. It's how we relate to it that matters. I love how RWBY looks at the topic of fear. It doesn't say 'nope, fear not allowed' which I think needs to be talked about more in popular culture (I think Marvel's done a decent job with it in the post-Endgame stories so far too btw) I don't think it's a topic that's specific to Volume 7 though. I think we've seen it looked at ever since Volume 3, and it's going to continue to be a prominent topic until the show ends for good. And I, for one, am looking forward to it.

"Fear isn't evil, it only allows us to learn our own weaknesses. When we learn our weakness, people can grow stronger and kinder." - Gildarts Clive (Fairy Tail) "I'm so disappointed, Ichigo, so very disappointed. Sadly, your sword exhibits only fear. When you counter, it's because you fear being killed. When you attack, you fear killing. And when you protect someone, you fear you could let them die. At this point, the only thing your sword speaks is senseless fright, and that's not good. What you don't need in battle is fear. Nothing will come of it. When you counter, you don't let them cut you. When you protect someone, you don't let them die. And when you attack, you kill." - Kisuke Urahara (Bleach) "How can you move faster than possible, fight longer than possible without the most powerful impulse of the spirit: the fear of death." - Blind Prisoner (Dark Knight Rises)

Right up there with the Litany Against Fear: "I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

The story of Merry, The Coward In every battle he ever fought, he was afraid. He was over come with an overwhelming feeling to run...and he did. Till the day everyone needed him, he wanted to run...but he didn’t. He stood and he fought and he died a hero. For his bravery in the face of the most terrible monster and against his own fear, his name was burnt into the stars and history. He was a coward and afraid but in the end that didn’t stop him from saving the ones he loved.

This monologue hit me harder than most of the story so far. The tone just makes me focus completely on the screen and forget what I was thinking about. The parallels to the narration from volume 1, as well as volume 3's end, brought back memories I had forgotten about. It also feels so much like those audio files from the game 'The Witness', which are very introspective and make you consider abstract concepts. I absolutely love it.

Oscar is my favorite character tbh. He's the kind of character that I enjoy watching and listening to way more than the main cast. I've stopped caring about team RWBY almost entirely at this point as they've all become so damn flat and boring. They all think the exact same way and just echo chamber stupidity and hypocrisy to each other. I think there was a point in this volume that Ruby started to question her decision making and Qrow just went "nah, ur good", when she lied to Ironwood. It's so damn self-righteous it's painful
