Mmmmmmmm, lovely - new Ozrics! It's like their music grows from inside you when you listen on headphones - it's quite extraordinary. Copious washes of delays and reverbs over drifting, floating arps and beautifully picked guitar licks. Ever since Pungent Effulgent they've been one of my favourite bands - that's a long time!

In no way an educated Ozric fan, this album is my first taster of this band but this tune is pure progressive rave music, love it, in headphones its killer. The instrumentation & rhythms on this track is so good, when those acoustic reverb guitars kick in, sweet spot!

Ozric Tentacles... Probably the strongest proponents, in music, of the saying "if it ain't broken, don't fix it"... You know where you stand, what you're getting and you know that it's going to sound magic... In these days of global pandemic, continents on fire, whole countries flooding, the rise of fascism, the new Cold War, Murder Hornets, 50 mile wide walls of flying ants, biblical locust plagues and Cumbernauld being mentioned on telly with no reference to the Shit Tip Town Centre it's exactly this sort of stability we need. This sounds excellent!

Been a fan since the late 80's. But this is what happens when the arpeggiator writes the music. No dynamics, no thrill any more.
@otherreality4 жыл бұрын
You are a bit harsh imho. There was always the arp, the vcs bubbles, the whole deal. There are cool choppy funky guit parts here, maybe you miss the keyb solo by seaweed or sth, I can relate but still, Ed keeps it alive show some respect and acknowledge that the band can't be the same for 30+ years.
@Invisible-Rhino4 жыл бұрын

I disagree because there are really some unusual guitar things going on in this song as well as the soundscape is just awesome. Sure it’s one of their more simpler ones but it doesn’t mean that they won’t blow her mind with something else later on down the line with really unusual time signatures and things like that.
@wexfordranger4 жыл бұрын
@@otherreality No, if you listen to the earlier stuff, the guys constructed beautiful complex instrumental songs, with different sections and dynamics, stops and starts, imaginative switches to different musical styles, etc. Songs like Saucers, Ayurvedic, Jurassic Shift etc etc etc. Now it's more meandering and without shape. It's nice to listen to I suppose but I don't ever feel like something unpredictable or exciting is going to happen. The old songs were really worked out as a band and those shifts in style were at times spectacular (the shifts to reggae in Vita Voom and Space Between Your Ears for example). As a musician I just miss that feeling that Ozrics are a band.
@SirBoycie4 жыл бұрын
@@wexfordranger I agree, regrettably. Post-Hidden Step the albums do largely sound like they were done by Ed alone, recorded into a laptop (on the cheap). I really do hate the synth bass lines and programmed drums that have been all over their releases since Hidden Step (and on this) and the 'kitchen sink' production and arrangements seem symptomatic of too much messing around in a DAW. Totally miss proper bass guitar and drums...always a great feature of their earlier albums. It's clear to me that the likes of Joie, Seaweed, Zia etc. brought a much needed band dynamic to Ozrics.
