P 38L vs Me-109K (online dogfight)

hello antred11! I have to say this dogfight and your previous versus Fw 190 is one of the best dogfights I have sen on KZbin. I say that because in P-38 you really have to work hard to get a kill against single engined fighters, and that is exactly what you did against 109 and 190. Tough luck at the end. Keep posting more! It is not a Me109k, witch has a retractable back wheel, as well as totally covered front wheels, and a different canopy...

You should have gone for a defensive circle (like a lufbery circle) when you were at altitude and he was below; that way you could have descended upon him at a more advantageous angle. It seriously sucks how that ME came in from no where at the end and shot you down. I didn't see him coming.

It's "Il-2 Sturmovik 1946". Cliffs Of Dover is a newer game, but sadly it's only about the battle of Britain and doesn't have my favorite plane (the P-38) in it ... at least I don't think it has.

P-38L was probably the only US fighter that could challenge the Bf109K in a vertical dogfight. Shame the other 109 ruined a nice dogfight.

The P-38 was most certainly not "pure shit". Obviously, close dogfights against nimble single-engine fighters were a bit of a challenge, but the P-38 still gave better than it took, even though unlike the famous P-51, the P-38 went head to head against the Luftwaffe's finest, while the Mustang only started to become available in numbers after Hurricanes, Spitfires, P-38s and P-47s had already torn out much of the Luftwaffe's guts.

The P-38 ruled in the Pacific against the more nimble Japanese fighters. You don't have to dogfight someone, if you're faster and have a better rate of climb. The P-38's only problem was the time it took to work out the bugs of the G & H series. Once the J & L series came along, they were competitive with almost anything.

P-38L could turn with a A6M Zero down to stalling speed so I see no reason it would not out turn a BF-109 in any mark. Those boosted ailerons and combat flaps had their uses. This simulation has pilots who do not understand their planes. BTW the BF-109 would run out of gas going full throttle far sooner than the P-38L if they kept up that dogfight.

anted you clearly made a mistake here because attacking a superior aircraft 1 on 1 is a mistake and you threw away your altitude and speed advantage almost instantly so it was 100% chance you would loose the fight due to your mistakes if you ran instead you might of been able to get back to base and get help from other aircraft on your team so ya basically try not to go into fights you know you probably can't win :)

Maybe. That wouldn't have been much fun, though. Also, I've fought plenty of 109s in my trusty old P-38 and come out on top in many of the encounters ... I just fouled this one up, or my foe was just plain better than I. :)

antred11 It's not hard at all. Emil = Square nose, and the E-4 has a nose cannon. F = round nose. G = More solid canopy, G-6 has 13mm machine guns wich makes small nostrils. G-10 is a more streamline G-6, so it doesn't have nostrils, but a thickers nose. The G-14 is a G-6 wich is more streamline, but still has the nostrils, and a retractable rear landing gear. K = G-10 with a retractable rear landing gear, and a MK108 30mm cannon in the nose. It's pretty simpel actualy.
