One thing I HATE about so many "dark" shows is when they foreshadow tragedy, only to have some crazy miracle happen at the end and everyone gets a happy ending. I love Edgerunners because, as painful as it is to watch, it stays true to itself and follows through on its promises.

Something I was thinking whilst watching was “wow how is David going to survive this” when seeing how bad things are getting with him, but then I would think hey if he survived it’s actually going to be pretty lame. I definitely agree that it’s good to follow through with it. The happy ending here is with Lucy, of course it’s bittersweet, but we needed David’s story to end like that. Anything else would have been a cop out.

@@TehCream It's really not a happy ending though, because as she tells David the only thing she wanted is for him to live. Her dream changed from escaping Night City to the moon to getting David out of there, but David couldn't let her die either and died to save her. She only went to the moon because it was his last request to her, and now she's back to how she was after escaping the Arasaka facility. Alone with her family/friends all dead (Falco aside). The only silver lining is she finally got out of Night City and might make a somewhat better life for herself, but she'll always be haunted by the loss.

Hey, here's some trauma to go with your trauma. Bout half a year ago when they released the expansion for the game, they also added in an easter egg into the game. In the graveyard where you can find eulogies for various characters that die in the course of the game, you can also find one for David written by Lucy. It says: "you didn't take me to the moon but you were there with me." There's one next to it for David's mom as well that says: "you were right. David made it to the top of Arasaka tower." There's one nearby dedicated to Pilar, Maine and Dorio that says: "you were the only family I ever had." There's one for Rebecca that says: "I regret not finishing our conversation." Finally, there's one for Kiwi hidden away in a corner saying: "you taught me to never trust anyone in NC."

Easily my favourite reaction to this incredible show. Cried along with you, David and Rebecca deserved so much better. Wrong city, wrong people.
@TaRatTinCan
@TaRatTinCan 7 ай бұрын
I understand the sentiment, but the whole point of the story to me is that they really didn’t deserve better. No matter how you put it neither character is conventionally a good person. David is heroic and loyal, sure, but he also is a brutal criminal, who endangered and murdered civilians. At no decision point in the story he chose anything but the most violent and self-destructive path. There is no other ending that would feel complete, he earned his Legend.
@oranski3299
@oranski3299 7 ай бұрын
@@TaRatTinCan honestly I agree with you and stand by my initial statement at the same time. For sure, David and Becca are both criminals, mass murderers and lunatics. They spend their screen time shooting more people than you and I probably see in any given day. And in that sense you're right, they got what they signed on for. They were the boss in many other peoples peoples' stories. Adam Smasher was the boss in theirs. What I meant in my comment tho was that, as edgerunners go, they had standards. They weren't killing and robbing for the joy of it, they were doing it because the world gave them no other choice. Because NC is cruel and living an honest life is near impossible. David was a talented student, destined for greatness within Arasaka if not for his background, a random gang shooting, his mothers involvement with Maine, his ever growing bills, the disgusting bullies he faced, rampant capitalism, I think you get the point. He was a good kid who was forced into a life where his survival depended on bad actions. For goodness sake he's 17 at the beginning of the show (I think). His head is constantly being filled with the dreams of his peers, its hardly surprising he loses sight of his humanity when the hardships he faces are so overwhelming. The only light in the storm are the hopes of his dead mother and the ambitions of the man who saves him from a life begging on the streets. To be clear I appreciate your input, I'm a lil tipsy atm and am very passionate about this show so am using the opportunity to rant about it. So it's interesting to respond to your comment. Especially given you only focused on the part about them deserving better. It's a gimmicky quotation, but I did also include Johnny's line, which I think actually sums up everything I've said here. They deserved better, but this world doesn't give people what they deserve. And even the people we like are rarely deserving. So I'll say again. Wrong city, wrong people.

@@TaRatTinCan David you're right to some degree, although the show also points to how David is a genuinely good person who gets fucked up by NC. The only time we see him kill civilians is when he's suffering a cyberpsychotic episode, and he only becomes a cyberpsycho because he's willing to do whatever it takes to get Lucy out of NC meaning more chrome. The first time he kills someone is after they murder one of his crew, before then we see he's hesitant to even take a gun. Lucy is is pretty ruthless, but her circumstances are even worse. She's trained to be a weapon from a young age and used in dangerous data mining, and then is hunted by Arasaka for the rest of her life. She only ever kills people coming after her or David, which seems pretty justified to me.

Later on he was on Arasaka Tower when the nuke went off. There wasn't much left of him afterwards, but enough to "borg him up" even more afterwards. Bottom point, he didn't cut out most of himself". 5:00 what happened was Kiwi basically used a weapon glitch or cyberware malfunction quickhack on Faraday, either (most likely) overriding his own arm cyberware motor function and making him shoot himself, or malfunctioning the weapon so it misfires. Either way, the end result is the same: Faraday loses control of the gun and shoots himself in the foot, it looks like. You can see the little red menu holograms appear around his arm right before it happens, indicating that Kiwi is quickhacking. You can see the same thing happen in episode 4, when Lucy short-circuits/overheats the cyberpsycho that killed Pilar.

I loved your reactions. A question I’ve asked myself is why do people watch reactions of people watching shows. The answer I’ve come to is they want to relive the moments of excitement, joy and loss. Cyberpunk edge runners is clearly a modern tragedy with so many important issues of addiction, communication, friendship, love and loss. It’s meant to encompass all the setting of night city has to offer. The trauma of the ending is still one of the most brutal moments I’ve watched in an anime. It’s one of those things where only people who’ve gone through it can truly understand how it made us all feel. Rebecca for me is the hardest thing to watch. A loyal friend with unrequited love for David fighting for him only to be cut down by a monster. Thank you for sharing your trauma and remember your not alone. We close ourselves off from each other far too often but genuine reactions, both of you sharing your vulnerabilities , helps heals that pain overtime. Side note you probably have a patreon I haven’t signed up for but if your looking for a different palette cleanser I would like to recommend two shows. One a hilarious, romantic comedy called Kaguya-Sama Love is War and the other an incredible fantasy adventure filled with action, hilarious writing and based off the events off a dungeons and dragons campaign, the Legend of Vox Machina. Take care.

The point of the show, if you could boil it down to one thing, is how Night City (and trying to live in its system) ends in ruin for everyone but a few. Doesn't matter who you are really, trying to be "great" or "somebody" in that system is an exercise in futility. The people who make it are the ones who see the cage for what it is and leave. At least, that's my read of it. There's strong commentary on society, particularly a possible future for america, baked into the universe and the stories told in it.

When you realize that Lucy having visions of David on the moon is signs of her own irreversible descent into cyberpsychosis and that her true purpose for going to the moon is to peacefully die without causing harm to anyone.

Or she is just remembering David and their BD date to the moon. In the game, you learn she's still alive and living on the moon. Even implied that she csme down for awhile as you can find Davids memorial plaque with a quote from Lucy

The point was to achieve Lucy’s dream and get her to the moon they manage to accomplish that. Cyberpunk isn’t really about happy endings not in there purest form anyways, it’s usually more bitter Sweet. There is a Point, and they do achieve the objective by the end, but probably not through the most ideal means or even with the most ideal outcome but it’s usually a half good half bad, ending, roughly.

There is a line you cross when you realize that this is going to be a one way trip. After this the question becomes "how are you going to go out?" and glory lies in going out with a bang... There was no future for David, he was done. There was no "happily ever after" option for him...

CDPR's Cyberpunk 2077 is the story of slow death. Everything and everyone are dying and trying to grab onto something worthwhile before the end. That really flowed into this series.

Sometimes we forget that thanks to the sacrifice of many people we can enjoy the benefits that we experience today. For me, Rebeca is the one who most promotes this idea, that although her love was not reciprocated, she did not hesitate to sacrifice her life for what she loved, even knowing that she could never be with David.

You girls must watch the music video clip for the ending song of the show. It expands a little bit the story, and if you girls want to pause it to read all that is showed, do it, it makes it better! After that I really think you two should play the game and record your reactions of it. Maybe alternate who plays to each part. If you enjoyed the show, you'll love the game!

“Sorry, I wish we could go to the moon together” and then a flashback of all the innocent times with that song in the background was absolutely criminal, just hurts every time. The more I think about this show the more I think the writer went through some real shit and wanted us to feel that pain too, and it worked depressingly well.

Hi there. Just binged this playlist of this and really loved just how genuine your reactions were. I had played the game at launch and watched the series when it was released and still can't make it through a year later without tearing up over the storytelling and just how masterfully this hits. I hope you are doing amazing, and if you haven't yet, highly recommend the 2 music videos they put out for it as well for "I Really Want to Stay At Your House" and "Let You Down". As a warning, both are expectedly emotional. "Let You Down" also serves as a mini prequel short story. But again, thank you for an amazing reaction and welcome to the support group of the shows fans.

There is a character in the game who once asked, if they want to go out the "quiet life ? or blaze of glory?". and it just solidifies that in night city, you are just a spec of dust in the sea of people. nothing you do would make an impact. So the best thing to do is to choose how you wanted to go out.

Was great watching your reaction to this. Endings like this where you feel happy and sad are standard for the Cyberpunk universe, the game will leave you feeling the same. " Guess I meant, I dunno... a happier ending... for everyone involved. Johnny Silverhand : Here, for folks like us? Wrong city, wrong people." Probably my favorite quote from the game. If you haven't already, theres a "music video" of sorts for the end credits song that worth checking out.

Went toe to toe with Adam Smasher who's been killing and chroming since the 2010's and actually lasted longer than a second! Stared death in the face with a smirk and a "fuck you" when the end came.
