Mr Ramesh Vinayagam, No Doubt, is a very knowledgeable person in the Music field. The interviewer Mr Shaji was good in putting only the relevant questions pointedly. As Mr Ramesh was both faster and comprehensive in his Responses, it was a bit difficult to follow. Like any artist, as a Composer he supports his fellow composers. But, it's heartening to see that he never denied the significant role being played by a Lyricist in creating a song which, of course, is a fact. But, his response about the role of the singers could have been much better and courteous. Though Singers cannot be termed as Creators, their contributory role is very very significant in making a song very beautiful. There's a Sea Difference between a song sung by an ordinary singer or a composer himself in his terrible voice and a song sung by a seasoned professional singer with his expertise touch. He can't simply brush aside the role of the singers and should give Due Respect to them. For example, a Song like Paattum Naane Bhavamum Naane can never be sung by any other singer like the way TMS sang nor a song like Oru NaaL iravu Pagal Poal Nilavu can be sung by any other singer like the way Susheela sung it soulfully nor a song like 7 SwarangaLukkul can be sung by any one else like the way Vani Jayaram did it nor a song like Bhajagovindam (AAdhi Sankarar) can be sung by any one else like the way Yesudas sung it so divinely nor a song like idhu Kuzhandhai Paadum Thaalaattu can be sung by another singer like the way SPB sung it so beautifully. So, let him give due respect to the singers. He can't just brush aside their roles. Seasoned Singers are both interior as well as exterior decorators. Without the aesthetics and embellishments given by a professional singer with his / her expertise touch or rather with his / her natural penchant , any song will go to a Dustbin if it's sung by a mediocre singer or a composer himself in a donkey's voice. So, even if you need not share your Royalty or Commercial interests in your creations with a Singer, you Need Not make them Beg to a Composer to seek his permission to sing their (own) songs - I mean the song already, originally sung by themselves in their own voice for a film or an album. After all, their singing is liked by many fans and that's why people keep watching them singing in Stage / TV Shows even though they can be quite content with what's already heard by them in a Radio Or a Cassette or in a You Tube Channel. Of late, I find many people in the Music field (whether a composer or a singer or a Musician) a bit arrogant as Music Knowledge and the related Popularity brings with them arrogance too; only the degree of arrogance varies from person to person. Let them keep in mind people love any art (including Music) only as a segment of Entertainment in Life and it's not something inevitable as openly admitted by the late Carnatic Vocalist Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. In our country or for that matter in many countries, hero worshipping is being done so intensely when it came to Music or Acting or any form of art compared to other more valuable roles being played by Nuclear / Space / Computer Scientists. That's what is, arguably, making this section of people a bit more contemptuous / arrogant in their outlook and demeanour.

The editing done by Shaji is so fast.Dont You see that there are no pauses between Questions and Answers often in this broadcast? Ramesh Vinayakam had ,as You Yourself say,is comprehensive in His answers, replies.As far being fast it is due to Ramesh Vinayakam 's Clarity of thought cogency in expressing it in clear words.Ramesh Vinayakam when asked about composer or creator, lyricist,producer real rights etc., Ramesh Vinayakam clearly states about copyrights and such matters and speaks the ambit within which those people fall in place.Having said that Ramesh Vinayakam goes on to state about the real place for singers in it.A singer is also like an instrument as even a child will know that voices are from the throat which is an instrument by itself with the only advantage being it can express words directly unlike other instruments used in a song preparation.If all the songs You have mentioned have been sung by other singers other than those You have mentioned how can You be so sure that it would not be popular unless it is tested in the same way?Anyway all these years we have been saying...Spb song,jesudas song,TMS song...was all wrong in reality.we also say it is MGR song, Sivaji song etc.,.It it pure ignorance and hero worship to singers and actors and also Your addiction due to repetitive hearing of good songs....I mean good songs to the heater by the composer...that makes You subjectively blind to the actual fact of creation itself.You need not be so kind to singers.

Certainly the songs mentioned by me can't be sung better by another singer. I stick to what are all I have stated in my Comments . Nothing wrong in being kind enough towards singers when a composer seeks to belittle their roles unreasonably; of course it's a sort of disrespect only. (You are talking like a spokesperson for Mr Ramesh Vinayagam.) Tks for yr response. I don't want to prolong this debate.

I agree with your observation about the importance of acknowledging the contribution of singers to film songs. Contrary to popular opinion, singers are not mere executors' of composer's vision in many instances. Composers such as KVM/Pughazhendi and A.R.Rahman provide sufficient space for the singers to improvise and in a sense 'co-create' the song along with the composer. You could have avoided 'Donkey'' voice comment- Film composers ,when they sing, although they may not be technically perfect in pitching or have honey-tainted voices are able to convey the 'soul' of the song because they had conceived it in the first place.

It's an expression of my frustration only as I can't digest some good compositions getting killed by poor voices, for want of Sruthi, Wayward singing without any control and lack of adequate expressions, etc. So if a composer can justify demanding Royalty, as an intolerant Rasika we can also justify penalising them with a penalty for punishing us with their reckless singing. 😊 Thanx a lot Sir for your kind Response.

1986 even few years before karaikudi subramanian a Veena exponent have done his thesis for gamaka writing , where he used notation for gamaka in graphic, visually can see and sing …. He has named it as EGR ( emotional graphic representation ) Many people silently doing great jobs ..

The clarity in his speech and down to earth 😊 wish he should be composing lot of Tamil songs. We are done with all the dandanaka music. Podhum nu iruku. Konja melody sethukalame. I love folk but ipo konjam over ah Djing panra madhiri iruku. There are no originality. These kids are liking whatever which are too noisy for the party. I don't say it's wrong but everything should be balanced so all kind of people can enjoy the music.

He is a good composer, and the concept of the stream flow of music -Beethoven can be applied to Ilaiyaraja too, as he thinks of the music in mind and writes the notes without playing, which Beethoven did too. He says that he doesn't believe in divisions so why did he mention S.Janaki as Brahmin, all these years no one cared to look in, this is like taking pride, also wrong in his view against T.M. Krishna. So many languages thrived and existed without having writing form.
