This is Pt.2 of the compressor pedals video series and features my 1979 Greco P bass being played through a variety of different compressor pedals and settings.

I tried to level match as much as possible and the bass was looped through a TC Ditto for consistency between the pedals.

I just bought one of the 2023 model Diamond’s and it might be one of the best compressors I’ve ever used. Very transparent, incredible sustain. Super nice.

Cali76 was the one that sounded the best to my ears. EBS and Diamond sounded pretty great, too. And I liked the slight distortion from the Pigtronix one too, it puts a little "dirt" on the tone.

as far as leveling out my volume per string which is basically all I want, they all do that. I have bought and sold quite a few.. btw: one that I always hang on to is the zoom.. I know it’s not taken seriously by many but it’s really not bad at all..and it has many other fun settings.. I’m glad it was included here

Really pity that your setting of the compressor is not properly to hear the compression. the cali 76 is the one that I want to listen there sound but your setting is 60% dry signal full of HPF and fast attack slow release . that's mean you can not hear much compression. the setting should be 100% wet , no HPF , Slow Attack Fast Release. this setting can apply for all compressor test

Actually it's not exactly how it looks. You can see the juwel indicating the compression. The high pass filter doesn't necessarily lessen the compression it just makes so that the time when compression happens is linked more to the higher parts of your notes, which makes it more percussive or defined. The dry knob isn't a blend control so with the knob on 60% you're adding 60% on top. That makes more or less 40% dry signal and 60% compressed signal.

@@buelow123 That is not how the HPF filter works, It makes the compressor react only to the frequencies above the HPF, it still compresses the hole signal but its not triggered by the low end

Ok, I'm listening with headphones and I can't hear any difference. Certainly not enough to pay over $200 for a pedal that does nothing.

I agree. There's too many variables anyway in compressor settings. I seriously think compressor comparison videos are totally useless.

I'd go with the DG, a nice fat and warm tone. The EBS is also nice but it sounds some noises or is just me? Also people on internet are complaining about EBS Multicomp. quality in longlife therms. They are having issues with the time.

I don't hear so much difference at all. It doesn't really seem like a compressor pedal is worth 200 bucks.

I think the reason why compressors sound so pointless in most videos is that people often either fail to demo them properly or attempt to show you things that can only be heard in person. Thomann has a pretty good video showing 5 different compressor pedals where you can actually hear the difference. Compressors seem to be most useful for taming and enhancing your tone and volume when you really work the strings, e.g. slap style, pick style, strumming, or digging in with your fingers. I don't have a compressor yet, so I'm just guessing when I say this next thing, but maybe you can't hear how compressors affect softer playing (like in this video) because it's more felt in the room than heard through your headphones or speakers.

@@SonicXRage the quality of sound through a KZbin video is very average to poor and to hear some differences in tone or attach, etc. my be difficult.....i am listening with a very good sound system including an SVS sub (considered the best by some) and hear no differences throughout the this entire video

@@KateLynnBeatty That's strange. I'm listening with KZ ZS10 Pro IEMs and I can very clearly hear the difference between when the Comp's are switched on and off. The differences between the various comps are much more subtle. And in that sense, Elias is right to ask about value for money. But to not hear a difference between comp on and off, with any of these samples, that says more about your ears or listening environment IMO.
