It seems that you Georgians are particularly fond of meat dishes, especially tonkatsu, gyudon, and chicken nanban. Perhaps this is because you have a historical food culture that includes eating a lot of mammals and poultry. In fact, it was only about 150 years ago that we Japanese started eating large land mammals such as cows and pigs. Therefore, there are not many original Japanese meat dishes, but since you are in Japan, I would like to introduce a few to you😄 If you are still in Kyushu, there are two meat dishes that I would recommend. 1. Chicken Nanban: This is a dish that originated in Miyazaki Prefecture, Kyushu, which is located just south of Oita Prefecture, where Beppu is located. Therefore, I think it would be a good idea to try the authentic chicken nanban at least once. 2. Basashi (Horse Sashimi): Kumamoto Prefecture, which is located next to Miyazaki Prefecture to the west, is famous for basashi. Eating raw horse meat may seem a bit strange to people from overseas, but it is high in protein and low in calories. It is also sweeter and softer than beef or pork, making it easy to eat. In terms of hygiene, there is no need to worry about eating it in Japan. However, the quality can vary greatly from store to store, so if you are interested, I recommend searching online for stores with a good reputation. Other Meat Dishes to Enjoy in Japan: If you are outside of Kyushu, I also recommend trying horumon-sashimi(Raw offal). I did some research and found out that Georgians also have a food culture that includes eating offal. In Japan, when we eat horumon-sashimi, we naturally pay great attention to freshness from a hygiene standpoint. However, if you are worried, there are also grilled and stewed offal dishes that you can try. There are many good restaurants in big cities like Tokyo and Osaka. Fish Dishes: Since you are in Japan, I also recommend trying some delicious fish dishes other than sushi and tempura. There is an area called Izu located just south of Mt. Fuji, which is famous for its delicious kinmedai (golden eye snapper). This fish is known as a luxury fish in Japan, but it is distributed in the deep sea of the North Pacific Ocean, so I think you probably don't have many opportunities to see it in Georgia. It is a delicious fish that can be enjoyed not only as sushi and sashimi, but also as nitsuke, a stewed dish made with soy sauce, mirin, and sake, etc. I think the fish dish that Irina-san was eating in this video was nitsuke, but I would strongly advise against drinking the sauce directly too much😅 Nitsuke in Japan is not a soup dish, but the seasonings are basically used as a "tare" or sauce, similar to salad dressing. In other words, the taste is adjusted so that the fish is at its most delicious when the seasonings are absorbed into it. Therefore, if you directly consume a large amount of the sauce itself, you will end up ingesting too much salt and sugar, which can be a concern if you are worried about weight gain. There are a huge number of fish used for dishes in Japan, but I think kinmedai is a dish that everyone can enjoy. For example, it is very unlikely that people will have different preferences for it like they do for uni (sea urchin) or squid, so it is especially recommended for people visiting Japan for the first time🤗 This fish is especially suitable for nitsuke. While tuna and salmon, which are popular with people from overseas, are known as sushi toppings, kinmedai is a fish that allows you to easily appreciate the appeal of nitsuke. There is also kinmedai shabu-shabu, similar to beef or pork shabu-shabu. The best time to eat this fish is from December to February and from June to August. I don't know if you will have the opportunity during this visit to Japan, but if you are interested, I would definitely recommend trying it✨
