Very beautiful. When I began listening to Janacek, I didn't appreciate his music. But over time I've grown to love it. If I had to describe it to someone who is unfamiliar with it, I would say it is a cross between Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky.

It's probably not the best version, but it's ~ by far ~ my favorite version, perhaps because it's the one I learned the opera on. It won the Grand Prix du Disques for that year ~ rare for Supraphon ~ and everything about it shows a heart that I haven't quite heard as much in the other (several) versions I've heard. Thanks for posting it.

The best recording so far. I can understand every single word. Especially Harasta's part stands out when compared to other recordings. Simply excellent!

I totally agree. Bohumil Gregor was a conductor who really knew what does it mean to sing opera. Helena Tattermuschová is the best stylized Bystrouška ever.
