Been watching this 30x now. Still the best choreographed dance ever. Some actions are novel and so marvellous. Only this beautiful dancer can pull it out perfectly because she is light on her feet and easy on the eyes.

Idk who choreographed this tau’olunga but it’s brilliant. I can’t speak Tongan but she looks like a story teller, and a beautiful one at that. Every move and stroke of her hand was well placed and coordinated in such a beautiful and graceful tone.

Sisiuno was the punake (choreographer) she's the one sitting on the ground behind the dancer who is her little sister. She is the daughter of the late Professor Futa Helu, one of Tongas great scholars in academia and Tonga history and performance arts.

In case some of the younger ones didn't know. The TAUALUGA is originally a Samoan dance that was integrated into Tongan culture in 19th Century. When it was first adapted by the Tongans, the movements were a lot like the Samoan Taualuga because that's where it came from until 1950 when Queen Salote personally added more of the Tongan gestures & took out some of the Samoan gestures which then created a more distinct Tongan style & a distinct Tongan TAU'OLUNGA :) #HISTORY #ROOTS #LearnIt She took it back to the OLD SKOOL & she did a BEAUTIFUL JOB all around!

When i first started watching this tauolunga for the milllllioooonth time, enjoying it, I was always wondering why her fkhaka was so fast and harsh compared to the traditional tongan haka. After learning more about the origin of tauolunga and the choreographer's history, aspiration, and direction I LOVED IT MORE! I also love how her facial expressions are natural - these miss heilala tauolunga girls are adopting this hawaiian dramatic facial expression thing which is really off putting and very un-natural.

The song is suposed to be like that since it the song and haka were fa'u in Samoa, her father Futa Helu made the dance for her if you look at the end of the clip Hon. Lupepau'u is sitting there watching Futas daughter dance for her a song that was written for her and the joy her birth brought, and her tau lalo is just fine and her hips well that is the art of tau'olunga to move sino molu not like an unbending ruler, she is a graceful dancer but hey you have your opinion and I have mine!!!!
I don't get tired watching dis taahine...tauolunga..girl you are sooo graceful..plus your face is absolutely beautiful..with all the right expression during your tauolunga...maaan...mesmerizing taahine..malo!

' if i had to rate her dance it is 100% perfection ! For people who try to judge saying she can't dance I'm sure you guys are PLASTIC Tongans ! She has pure talent, her body language, feet, face and hands were all flowing and graceful and she is from a well known family who knows so much more beyond TONGAN Traditional dance. Her dance was influenced by Samoan Taualunga but still keeping it real to the Tongan fakahaka (moves). So unless you know what Tongan TAUOLUNGA really is. . . . . . keep the negativity to yourself and enjoy the video you flippin annoying people -_- Zzz !

This is the old way Tongan tauolunga untill the queen change it into a royal way or fakaeieiki of the movement The Tau'alunga is from Samoan since The Tui Tonga take control in Samoa and people tend to learn more of both culture until it flee back to Tonga but it doesn't meant it originated from Samoa it is just our royal taualunga but because of the lineage of tuikanokupolu the mother was from Samoa which link and align Tongan cultures
@DARUSTA254 Жыл бұрын
@@emiliana.06 The Tauolunga never had origin from Samoa because of tonga taking over samoa lol. Queen Salote liked the concept of the samoan dance so she made our tongan dance from the influence of the samoan dance and from our other ancient dances. Our Tauolunga isnt as old as the samoan version. And tui tonga had it reign 100s of years ago...

Read comments below; not Tongan but keen observer of Tongan dance. May I arbitrate a little here: there is merit in both styles, whether dancing a la Queen Salote or dancing a la Futa Helu? I shan't say any more than that for fear of offending someone. But I must admit to liking this routine. There is a softness and smoothness of action. Long live the art of Tau'olunga in whatever form it is danced. Blessings upon you all.
