With your arguments and opinions concerning the beats, i completely agree, his beat's evolution leaves a little to be desired. However, the irresistible sense of fun imbedded in his totally justified, interesting anarchical lyrics in this LP shouldn't be ignored. That AND "Never Better" had a couple of the best verses I've ever heard in hip-hop in terms of art as creative expression and elaboration of a simple concept,

This album really had to grow on me. It's definitely "poppier" than his previous work, and much less aggressive than some of the stuff he's done, but I ended up liking it a lot. Not as much as Never Better or Audition, though.

I got a few recommendations for album reviews actually, or maybe just even something to listen to even if you don't review it. One I mentioned before, which was the Icelandic band Agent Fresco's debut album "A Long Time Listening", which quickly became one of my all-time favorite albums. It has 17 songs on it, and is over an hour long. There are some amazing and complicated beats on it, and the album has a massive variety. Highly recommended, though I also warn you it's one of those albums

have a few songs that require a second listen for you to get used to. At least, for me it took a bit to get used to some of them. But when I got used to them, they became great. That happens with me a lot actually. Some of the best bands are the ones that I have to get used to before I actually like them. Then, I recommend the Australian band Karnivool's "Sound Awake", which has an interesting mix of songs on it, as well. Again, I would recommend listening a few times (possibly), beca

use it's another one of those albums that doesn't instantly click with you, or at least with me, but once you get used to it you can tell some of the great musical and singing talent in the band. Then, the last one, the Seattle-based (Or was, before they sadly disbanded) band Rishloo's album Eidolon. There are some fantastic vocals on some of these tracks, and some good instrumentation as well. It was another band that took me a bit to get used to, but once you get used to it it's great.

Considering that Never Better is probably my favourite album of all time I was fairly disappointed with this album. It took what made POS great, which is Stef getting more passionate as the song goes on until hitting a point where him and the drums are just in a frenzy togethor and destroyed it. It doesnt feel as raw as Never Better or as interesting. And holy fuck does that justin vernon song suck.

Instrumental. In a way it's sort of like steff saying "fuck it" this time and that he in a sense just wants to have fun and "get down". Either way, great job on the review. As a big p.o.s. fan I completely agree with your assessment of this record, something about it didn't pull me in as much as his previous releases have. Also, while I think Get Down is one of the album highlights, a track that you can honestly party to (which indie rap often lacks) while maintaining a counterculture attitude, Mike's pop-gangster interlude at the end ruins it for me. I get that he's making a statement, but for me it's excessive, a "don't hate the player" moment in my opinion.

I agree 100% with this review I'm a huge fan of POS and his first three albums and I get what he was trying to do with this album, but it just didn't do it for me. The lyrics and flow seemed dumbed down, the beats were bad, the hooks were poppy, and I didn't like the features on it. I give him credit for trying to do something new and progress, but I felt like he really lost himself sonically on this one.

I also think that the beats are meant to be a little tongue and cheek. This album was definitely coming off of that "occupy" wave and the re-emergence of Black Bloc tactics and squatting in the public conscience.

If you didn't feel that the "club tune" vibe was a joke...then you weren't listening to the song. "Burn the club down if you're spending more than fifty." Interesting how you didn't comment on the song "Lock-picks, Knives, Bricks and Bat" which was probably my favorite.

Hey Anthony, thanks for the POS review! Three things: 1. Really dug the intro to this review - although I'm not sure if you're being facetious or not. :) 2. Can you recommend any M83-ish Saturdays=Youth style music? 3. Would love it if you watched my first piano video, which you probably won't like. I like how aware you are of your taste, and would value your opinion. (I'll put it as a video response)

Only part of the album I didn't like was the autotune...The beats may be ''stripped down'' or ''mainstreamed'' but so what? The beats aren't experimental or new, but they are solid, they lay down a rhythm good enough for POS to spit out his lines, and it's catchy as fuck. But the lyrics themselves are what makes this album gold for me; a little less abstract than some of he earlier work, just the right balance so that it isn't too esoteric, and isn't so straightforward as to limit interpretation

This album did seem like it was going in a more "accessible" route, but I think the confusion is that this album was more bluntly anarchist. "Fuck your stuff" is not about random violence, but disregard for propertarian society and rich people are their commodities. This album was more about making some good agit prop than make a work of art, though I was partially disappointed with the music. I feel this was a step in the right direction. I mean POS even sent Crimethinc swag out with the CD.

I REALLY appreciate your critique on this album. I LOVE P.O.S., however I found myself highly disappointed with this album. You were 100 on the obnoxiousness of "My Weird Friends". This is not the same artist I fell in love with on "P.O.S. is Killing Me", "Broken Hearts Club", "I Made This From Scratch" and "Optimist". All of his newest tracks feel very foreign. I'd like some reviews on any or all Atmosphere as they are my fave and could never do wrong

I feel like a few of the concepts on this record went over your head, for example "Get Down" is supposed to sound like a club banger, hence why they reference the "CLURB" in such obnoxious ways. It's mocking all those shitty songs, with actual substance. Other than that I feel we just have differing opinions because "Weird Friends" is easily my favorite track on the album. Love it as a whole.

Re: Get Down What about this doesn't feel like a reflection of P.O.S's personality? It's not a club track for the sake of a club track. It's a release from thinking about how fucked up things are in the world. It's the Coup's Laugh, Love, Fuck but with a different revolution in mind.

While I mostly disagree, I understand why you have your criticisms. The beats can have a grating quality and they don't feel as organic as the stuff on Never Better. Though, I felt better about them after a couple spins. Comparing this to Lupe's Lasers... that is some cold shit, that album had nothing of value on the beat side. I'm probably not the most neutral on P.O.S. I've been a fan for a long time. I love Stef and I think his personality alone could carry me through any album.
