It was a clear blue sky with plenty of sunshine when two P&O Cruise Ships departed from Southampton Cruise Terminals today the 27th May 2018 the 'Ventura' & the 'Britannia'.
The 'Ventura' was the first to depart from the Mayflower Cruise Terminal exactly on time at 17:00pm which makes a very nice change for P&O. As she was approaching and passing town quay she blew her horn towards 'Britannia' which was in the Ocean Cruise Terminal and so the two ships gave a good horn blast at each other. The 'Ventura' then set off for her next cruise which is a 13 day round-trip cruise to Spain, Canary Islands & Portugal. Her first port of call is La Corunna.
After 'Ventura' had passed it was 'Britannia' to depart next just after 18:00pm she gave a good show on her ships horn as she departed the Ocean Cruise Terminal and the Steamship Shieldhall which had just docked alongside 48 berth then joined in with a blast on her steam horn and whistle in reply to 'Britannia' also the Red Falcon Car/Passenger Ferry which was just arriving from Cowes Isle of Wight gave a couple of toots with her horn as she passed town quay behind me.
All was good so I thought as 'Britannia' was leaving as she set off for her next cruise an 8 day round-trip to the Norwegian Fjords, she then suddenly started to reverse back to the cruise terminal the captain then announced that a passenger had been taken ill so a medical emergency was called for & the passenger had to be taken off and an ambulance was called to take the passenger to hospital, as a result of this the 'Britannia' was delayed by about 2 hours and finally got away from Southampton just after 20:00pm. Her first port of call is Stavanger in Norway.
