In this quick video I show you how to properly charge a 12 V Lead Acid battery, either a sealed one or a car battery. They are basicaly the same, so they can be charged with the same 12 V car battery charger.
Always be careful of the clamps, the red one goes to the positive terminal, and the black one to the negative terminal.
Never mess up these two clamps or you'll destroy the charger or you might cause a damage to the electrics of the car.
And never connect the two clamps together, or you'll short out the charger. Always connect the clamps to the battery terminals first, and then plug the charger to the wall outlet.
Never the other way around.
The Amp meter on the charger is a way for the user to monitor the charging status, and see if the battery is fully charged or not. When the needle of the meter shows zero, the charging is done. The battery is fully charged, and the charger is providing a very little current, just to maintain the charge.
At this stage, the charger can be removed.
In modern cars, it is better, and recomended by the manufacturers, that the battery is disconnected from the rest of the car's electric system.
This is due to the many electronic modules that are present in modern cars.
Disconnecting of the main battery in our car can be done in two ways:
Either by connecting a second external battery, parallel to the main battery, to supply power to the car's system, and then safely disconnecting the negative wire terminal from the main battery
or
by simply removing the negative wire terminal of the car, from the negative terminal of the car's battery.
CAUTION:
To disconnect the negative terminal from the battery, without an external battery to power the system, it is impeative that you wait at least 5 minutes, for the car to go to sleep mode.
And THEN you can safely disconnect the negative terminal.
Upon reconnecting the wire terminal on the battery, and before you start the car, it is important that you turn the key to the RUN position, and wait for about a minute, so that the car's computer recognizes and resets the rest of the electronic modules. And if some modules don't work properly, they might need reinitialization.
