P&S Watch: Descendants 3 (2019) | 5-Year Channel Anniversary | Disney DCOM Reaction

4 years ago, we sat down and watched the first Descendants movie from Disney Channel. We filmed on a phone at a time of day when the sun...you know...moved...and had no idea what kind of following these videos would one day have.
That's our nice way of saying that y'all have not stopped asking us to watch this movie since it came out when OF COURSE WE WERE GOING TO!

Honestly, Beast is horrible in this series. Not only does he have villains that were dead brought back to life with magic, but he dumps them all on the isle and serve them and their children all of Auradon’s leftovers instead of supplying fresh food and goods. I’m sure most of the villains would have rather stayed dead.

Personally I had thought this movie was a bit more mature than the other two. I liked how it put more effort into developing Harry and Gil and Uma and some of the side characters. It lended more to the whole people are complicated and capable of good and evil equally moral.

I kinda wanna clear something up with Audrey breaking in to the museum. She went there with the plan to break the crown. she was in the mindset "if I cant have it no one can." what happened with the guard wasnt Audrey. It was the sceptre, it saw her desire for revenge and it made Audreys path to the crown/sceptre clear. So from the moment Audrey went to break the crown the sceptre put Audrey under a spell, drawing her to it. it was a very 0 to 100 moment but it wasnt Audreys plan. just wanted to throw that out there. you guys are hilarious

I still just can't see Audrey and Harry working - Harry and Uma were kind of my favourite couple even though they weren't a couple and that's just a bit random and annoying. The way Evie's first concern is always the safety of the nearest small child, Harry's first and only worry always seemed to be Uma's safety. But then again I'm a bit more annoyed over the fact that now Mal is going to get the credit for doing what Uma wanted to do in the last movie, but it's still hard to be annoyed at that because Uma just looked so happy that the barrier was down.

I have lots of things to say! -My dad suspects that they didn't put Cerberus in the movie because they blew the entire special effects budget on Dragon Mal. -GIL AND JAY'S SHIP NAME IS GAY. -The fandom actually generally agrees upon the ship name Janelos for Jane/Carlos so it wouldn't be confusing. To be honest this movie felt super rushed. There was so much happening in this movie and I felt like the movie itself shouldve been much longer so the pacing could be better. Also they should've given us more of Audrey because she never once mentioned that she had been by Ben's side since they were kids. Or at least they should've put a flashback of when Audrey and Ben met so that we could feel sorry for her Edit #1: On the bright side, One Kiss made me realize that I'm not entirely straight and that I wished I was Doug the whole time XD

At the end of the 1st movie they made it seem like Audrey had come to like and accept the VKs. Then all of a sudden in this movie she hates them again. Also, I get not closing the barrier permanently, but What the heck!? The VKs are literally taught by their parents to steal and get revenge! Shouldn't they be required to go through the Remedial Goodness class to make sure they know the rules? What if there are more crimes and criminals? Then what? Where will they go? What about their parents? Who literally tried to kill the people of Auradon multiple times traumatizing Aurora's mom? Shouldn't they have a say in the matter? I need at least a sequel book facing the consequences!

Descendants is canon actually it doesn’t go against canon Descendants star Dove Cameron and author Melissa de la Cruz sat down for an in-depth interview about the series and explained just how everything works together. "I was informed very early on...by the head of Disney Channel, Gary Marsh, that the reason this project has taken so long was because Disney Corporate had to approve of somebody officially embellishing on the original stories, because that is what we're doing," Dove explained. "Anything else, like Once Upon a Time, hasn't actually been an official embellishment on the story," she continued, "We. Are. Canon." Descendants was actually the first time Disney was officially touching the classic tales of their movies. "That's why it took so long, because apparently, Disney corporate was like 'That's a terrible idea, we don't want to mess with the original stuff.' And so [Gary] told me that. He was like, 'This is the first time that this is ever going to happen.'" Dove adds, "Disney Channel is it's own thing, it's own beast, so to be told you're involved in the classics is like, there's nothing more delicious than that. I think that's why we're all so invested in the series and the franchise itself because it's the first time!" "It's the deepest honor, so for me, it was less nerve-wracking and the most delicious opportunity."

These watch throughs are an absolute delight to sit through and enjoy despite having never seen the originals! These films seem like such beautiful messes! Also I wanted to address the criticism of the highly confusing monarchy/election thing since historically elective monarchies very much were a thing, the most famous being the Holy Roman Empire and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It is just that they were nothing like elections we think of today because a) typically limited to only the upper class (for example, in the HRE for the longest time, only 7 of the most powerful nobles and clergymen could vote on the next emperor), b) they were open to any royal who put their nomination in (so for example, that's how for a time there was a Swedish king on the Polish throne, or when Charles I of Spain and Francis I of France competed for rule of the HRE. Charles won and became Charles V of the HRE), and c) they very quickly became rubber stamps for larger royal dynasties (most notably the Hapsburgs in the HRE, who held the position of Holy Roman Emperor from 1440 to its dissolution in 1806). Basically there arguably is precedence for that sort of thing, its just that the way it seems to be handled in these movies is they want to be both a fantasy kingdom and the modern USA all in one.
