I don’t think a lot of people really understand how advanced this was for the time. Definitely groundbreaking work

I think that related to today it's even more advanced. Now technology helps a lot and djs don't have to strugle with jumping needles like we use to do back in the days. Now the only limit it's the creativity

Michael Shum he had a very basic version of it as well when he first debuted it at a battle called 911 in Southern California

IMHO, his original patterns sounded much better musically. The boom bap doubles with the backcueing are incredibly catchy; one of the very reasons why he and the late great Swift Rock influenced me juggle wise.

Every juggle he made up, has about 30 patterns. He would pick the best patterns!!!

Ptrix can still hang with the best nowadays. Hey Michael, do you have the prelim round footage for all DJs? I would love to archive my Bubbling routine from that battle.

So this battle was won by Develop, wasn't it? Then he decided not to compete in the World Final, because he would have been using the same routines in the Beat Juggling Final, which he'd also qualified for, right? Infamous competed in the Advancement World Final instead, so does that mean Develop and Infamous both finished ahead of P-Trix in this battle? I never had the tape, although I did offer to buy a copy from the chubby kid with the glasses, who is sat behind P-Trix, many years ago, after he'd uploaded some of it on here. He didn't want to sell it though.

yeah develop won this one-defeating infamous in the finals, even though infamous was announced as the winner. i think develop beat p-trix in the semi-finals with the "you can't get fresher than this" juggle. not sure who the other semi-finalist was-either nando or ixl?

Yeah. I remember when I first saw him at the '99 US DMC Final. I'd just spent the last year trying to master Craze's new style of juggling, then P-Trix comes along with his weird open-fader juggling, and I was sat there thinking, 'Back to the drawing board!' Seriously, if, like me, you were battling back in the golden era, these guys would seriously stress you out, because you had to master all the new styles that came out, in order to stand a chance of competing.
@MichaelShum

i don't think anyone in the US much less UK ever mastered p-trix's juggling style

@@MichaelShum So there were three heats for the advancements :west,east and south. They would take top 3 from the east..top 3 from the west and top 2 from the south . Top 2 from the South was Infamous (winner) and J-Storm. The east heat resulted with Do-Boy (winner) Develop and IXL. At 1998 west coast eliminations was held in LA. They had to end the battle because they started the battle late and venue wanted to close up . The semis was supposed to be P-Trix vs Deus and Me Vs Nando. So they decided to have the 4 of us fly up to the to the bay area the next weekend for the US Advancement Finals. We were supposed to finish the semi pairings and determine the top 3 from the west before the US Finals. The losers of the semis would battle for 3rd place. From what I remember Do-Boy was supposed to come and they waited all the way up to the battle that was held on a sunday night. He didnt show up after all. So they decided that the 8 of us perform a small set to determine seedings for the US Finals.
