I believe Solomon was a prophet who wrote in Ecclesiastes 3; 19 "For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity." If you believe man has a soul, then so do animals which is going to make paradise pretty crowded. Of course, Solomon goes on to write in Ecclesiastes 9; 5 "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten." Clearly, Solomon didn't believe in life after death. Isn't Isaiah another prophet? What did he think? It is written in Isaiah 26; 14 "They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish." Isaiah didn't seem to think there was life after death. What was Ezekiel 's take on it? See what he wrote in Ezekiel 18; 4 "Look! All the souls-to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son-to me they belong. The soul that is sinning-it itself will die." How about Psalms? In praise of David, the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 146; 3, 4 "3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. 4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish." Sounds pretty final to me. There are other examples to use but it's pretty clear, prophets in the Hebrew Bible did not believe they had a soul that continued in existence. Does that present a problem for Islam?

EZEKIEL 18:20-21 20. The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. 21. But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
