And brother Hashim should not back down from the idea that the Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is the greatest of all prophets. He obviously is. In fact, he says "I never said that" and also gives that Qur'anic aayah about not differentiating the prophets. The only thing is Allah says not to differentiate because people bring others DOWN when trying to bring a certain prophet UP. But the reality is Muhammadur-Rasoolullah (SALLALLAHU ALAIHI WA SALLAM) IS the greatest messenger..the greatest prophet...the greatest person to have ever existed. And the Day of Judgement will show that he wasn't just another prophet among the prophets...but the Prophet that ALL the Prophets acknowledge. There is a reason why he led the prayer for all the prophets during Isra wal Miraj. He is the last prophet to come for a reason. There's a reason why his prophethood is the one that lasts until the end of time. He is the longest prophet now if you think about it. The other prophets weren't continuing as prophets after they died nor were they sent to everyone alive. But our Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is different. His religion is STILL *THE* religion to be followed and he is the Prophet of it right now. Our leader.. our master. He has been a prophet for the last 1400 years and will be all the way until the day of judgement! NO ONE is that long... not even Nooh (alaihis salaam). But ALL the prophets are still beautiful and undoubtedly HIGH in status compared to ANY creation. Ibrahim alaihis salaam is 2nd after our Prophet. Musa alaihis salaam is 3rd. Isa alaihis salaam is 4th. Nuh alaihis salaam is 5th. then all the other messengers. then all the prophets in general. then the 4 archangels.. then the Sahaba starting with abu bakr, umar, uthman, ali (radhiallahu anhum) then the rest of the sahaba.. then all people.. then the mass of the angels. So...the last ranking prophet is astroNOMICALLY higher than any OTHER creation. So that's why Allah wouldn't want us to differentiate. But not because the Prophet Muhammad is just like any other prophet.
