Basically, the infinite regress is where, let's say, you are a soldier in the field awaiting orders to shoot. So, you aks your superior, and your superior asks his superior, and that superior asks his superior and if this goes on for infinity, you will never be able to shoot. Now, apply this to the creator, the fact that we are here is proof enough that there was a beginning. if we keep asking who created God, and then the other God, the other God..... we would never be present, as its an infinite regress. In the chain there must be a start, who gave rise to all what you see.

With regards to the self contained universe. The universe whether you say jts eternal or not. It is arranged in a particular manner. The solar system, itself is arranged in a particular manner. So one can ask, why is it arranged in this manner instead of another. The fact that, it's arranged in a particular manner, shows that SOMEONE CHOSE to arranged it THIS instead of another way. So, it shows that there is an intelligence behind what you see.
