In Hong Kong, we cannot see this long ago. However, steam trains in mainland China are still operating in many villages. There is a special style/genre about it. If this steam trains take tourist, it will be wonderful. Also, their sizes are small and look cute, too.

there's something that makes this scene almost like it's plucke straight from a dystopian novel... The dirty clapped-out 0-8-0s with headlamps that looks like a pair of eyes in a box hauling equally as dirty and clapped-out tipper cars full of coal back and fourth between valliages makes it almost feel like something happened in the past where humans had to resort back to steam power just to move the goods from A to B... Dystopian yet somewhat beautiful.

@RobertCraft-re5sf11 ай бұрын
The only thing that would shut them down is production from the mine. They probably work on the tracks often. And steam engines are well-built machines. These folk could probably even just make new parts for them if one isn't available. There are plenty still operating in China today.

I’m not sure if this railway is still running, but they could at least lay down new tracks for a much smoother ride. Not to mention that the locomotives as well as the rest of the equipment are in serious need of overhaul.

The regulations in China compared to the USA are outstandingly different, look how wavey the steel rails are and how things are maintained I mean look at the condition of some of those trains! - I can't imagine the derailments and accident amounts are higher there than in the USA. or other countries that has strict regulations, good thing these small worker steamers seem to be on the slower end. Still cool to see these workers are fearless in some ways and travel almost at full speeds.

this class of loco seems to be very prevalent in china. what class is it ?. the wheels seem to be far to small for the loco they support lol, I really like the make do and mend attitude of these folk , but the health and safety issues must be horrendous. I watched one video on here where most of the control dials appeared to be missing off the taps and pipework , the driver and fireman were passing an adjustable spanner between them in order to turn things on and off it seemed funny that they didn't care lol just got on with the job of moving coal .

I'm assuming you're not American, but they use the 0-8-0 configuration (Whyte notation) because that's what they had lying around. These locomotives are Chinese Railways class C2 0-8-0s based off of a Russian prototype, if my memory serves me correctly. They were pretty cheap, so lots of industrial railways loved them.
