I was a missionary in Japan, Japanese is my second language, and taught English using the Bible--and I loved singing hymns in Japanese. I now live in Fort Lauderdale, I hear many of my neighbors speaking Creole and the nearest church is Haitian, which I would like to visit, so I am learning the language. My daughter’s sister and brother-in-law are having a baby. The dad is Haitian American. They have one child and I made them a baby quilt. I was going to make a baby quilt for this baby, I bought some quilting fabric with the Haitian flag. I always embroidered the babies name and birth information. I thought it would be cool to put a phrase in Haitian on there as well. Do you have any suggestions. I came to your site looking to learn the pronunciation of God bless you. Which you provided. The thing is I don’t know if they are Christian or not. My daughter and her husband are not. Do you think they would be offended if I put May God bless you on the quilt? I mean I know everyone is different. I was just wondering if there was a large resistance or anger toward Christianity in the Haitian culture? I want the quiltto be a blessing to them, not something that might make them angry. But I certainly think It’s good to ask God to bless every child.
