Amazing video! If I may, I’d like to suggest a few more (as a hiring manager) 1. If your resume is dense, it’s ok to bold critical information. 2. Use the “So What?” test. After reading about your contribution, the reviewer shouldn’t think, “So what?” 3. It’s ok to have different versions of resumes for different companies or roles. Apologies if unsolicited suggestions are not welcome.

I have some questions: 1. I’ve been rejected from about 50 interviews. (In the last one they found the excuse that I could have given more examples. There must have been 20 to 30 perfectly given interviews with no feedback at all. The feedback I got from a lot of them is that they went for another candidate). 2. Before the pandemic it only took around 4 interviews to secure a new role 3. I went to a top business school and have half a decade of experience working for blue chip companies 4. *I’ve been given the advice by some corporate operatives that I could still somehow secure a role at a top company even if I’ve been unemployed for half a dozen years* *Is it discrimination? Is it bias because there is money involved? I would just like to know what is going on as I’m being forced to retire early abroad/take a career break in the summer*..
@khomkrity4 ай бұрын
@@jahualhaq9853 1. Giving honest feedback is an unnecessary liability for the company. 2. I don't think it's ever that predictable of how many interviews required to secure a role. 3 and 4: No one knows you better than you. Hate to say it, but companies also have their rights to choose their "best" candidate. Is it discrimination? When is it not? Is it bias? For whatever reasons, everyone is biased. You get what you take, not what you deserve.

I feel like it's pertinent to mention that the structure of your resume really depends on your expertise in the field you are applying for. If you're entry-level and currently working on a project, you might want to add a link in your resume to that specific project. This gives the resume reviewer immediate knowledge that you are actively applying yourself. You should still link your general repository address in the header, though.

Hey, I just wanted to say I am more of a "fix it" person and the way you were able to show what you can offer to a company and HOW to describe your duties was flawless. I realized what I needed to do and changed up the descriptions from "I do x, y, z" to "I have DONE x, y, z and it helped the company significantly with this total amount of sales, revenue etc. etc." and just by ACCURATELY stating what I've done and showing confidence I can proudly say that I have a wfh job now doing less and making more with a guaranteed 1+ year contract and Motorola reaching out to hire me. I just wanted to say thanks and that you and your channel are awesome! 😎😄

It’s not his resume that got him into Google, (and not even his degree) but the University’s name (Carnegie Mellon) where he was graduated. My patience is running thin with folks who are privileged but can’t see they are privileged and give lessons to others less well off than them by showing “the resume that got me into X and Y” yet it’s their attendance to a prestigious organization that got them in there.
@tharlinshwe34032 жыл бұрын
@@lpmlearning2964 I acknowledge your statement. But I don't think we can complain about them being privileged cuz it takes hardwork to get accepted into those unis. Instead of being depressed about what we don't have, we should try what we can even if it will increase our chances by as little as 0.2. We will have to work harder for our shortcomings.
@lpmlearning29642 жыл бұрын
@Thar Lin Shwe Thanks, but I don’t think we got any shortcomings. Not having the money to go to a prestigious Uni is not a shortcoming. Not being able to study in high school, or not having the same set of opportunities to exploit so you can show off and to go to those Universities; These are not shortcomings. I’m curious if everyone who is willing to flex their CVs are equally willing to include in those CVs how easy they had it before being admitted there. Let’s see if they would look equally bright as someone who actually did not have it as easy and still managed to get in.

@@lpmlearning2964 If you see his 12 years of his life as software engineer video, you will see that his Carnegie Mellon name doesn't really help him that much in the first few years after he graduated. Saying the prestige of university to dismiss the person's hardworks is quite offensive imo.

"People love modesty, but they don't hire it." God, I wish someone had told me that when I first started out! I used to undervalue myself so much on the job market, I would even lowball myself when it comes to salary, hoping that would make me a more attractive candidate. I've wasted years of working at jobs and companies with lower than expected salaries as a result, and looking at where I am now, I'm better than I gave myself credit for.

I think "i wished i lived in Seattle(or New York)" is pretty common for most novice programmers. There are plenty of remote work jobs, but so few if any are entry level positions. I get the feeling no matter how good my resume is, if i cant get actual experience doing an internship at a start up or somewhere im never going to get anywhere. i live in the middle of nowhere in a 3rd world country, so basically zero chances of an internship(even finding a normal job is difficult). At this point i'd even be happy with a non paid remote internship, but those are mostly reserved for people studying a CS degree.
