শেষ পর্যন্ত পশ্চিমা মিত্ররা তাদের পাঠানো অ'স্ত্র দিয়ে রাশিয়ার অভ্যন্তরে হা'মলার অনুমতি দিয়েছে ইউক্রেনকে। আর এতে ইউক্রেন ঘুরে দাঁড়াচ্ছে বলেও মনে করছেন অনেক বিশ্লেষক। ইউক্রেনের সামরিক কর্মকর্তারা বলছেন, এ সিদ্ধান্ত যু'দ্ধের মোড় ঘুরিয়ে দিচ্ছে।

ইয়াহিয়া খান ৩ ডিসেম্বর ভারতের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ ঘোষণা করে। ভারত এই মুহূর্তটার জন‍্য অপেক্ষা করছিল। ৬ ডিসেম্বর প্রথম যশোর স্বাধীন হয় এবং ১৪ ডিসেম্বরের মধ‍্যে গোটা দেশ স্বাধীন হয়ে ষায়। পাকিস্তান ১৬ ডিসেম্বরের আগে পর্যন্ত আত্মসমর্পণের সময় পায়। যুদ্ধ হয়েছিল মোট ৮ মাস ২৩দিন। ৩ ডিসেম্বরের আগে পর্যন্ত অর্থাৎ ইয়াহিয়া খান কর্তৃক ভারতের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ ঘোষণার আগেরদিন বা ৮ মাস ১১দিন যুদ্ধ করে মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা পাকিস্তানের রাজাকারদের দ্বারা পরিচালিত সাড়ে তিন’শ ক‍্যাম্পের ১টিও দখল নিতে পারে নি।
