1883 সালে শিয়ালদহ দক্ষিন শাখায় ডায়মন্ড হারবার পর্যন্ত রেল স্থাপন হয় এবং 1928 সালে শিয়ালদাহ দক্ষিন শাখায় লক্ষ্মীকান্তপুর স্টেশন পর্যন্ত রেল চালু হয়।

পশ্চিমবঙ্গের রেলপথ বলতে কি শুধু কলকাতা কেন্দ্রিক বোঝায়? মালদহ, মুর্শিদাবাদ, দুই দিনাজপুর, কোচবিহার, দার্জিলিং সহ পশ্চিমবঙ্গে যে আরও জেলা আছে সেটা হয়তো আপনারা জানেন না।
