Under Labour's rule for the past 40 years in Coventry all major manufacturing has left the city . good luck brother.

Coventry used to be a major engineering/manufacturing hub with broad opportunities for the young. Now? Looks like a third world country!

The flats were not the problem, when they were first built they were designer homes...but if people can't get jobs because there is no industry then areas fall into decay...and crime...then after that a lot can be hidden inside those flats and then high rise housing becomes an issue...

The issue has always been the people and influx of different group let into the area, decent people can't get homes here... alongside no affordable homes or social housing being built...

It’s so weird that it’s all bare brick but it still looks pretty. Even bad crime areas can be aethethic. Weird how you can’t just judge an area by it’s looks, but good for it.

In the 80s early 90s when I used to go up there it was like the bronx looked worse than it does now, alot of Jamaicans then you'd see all the rastas on the front line, when you parked up the dealers would literally mob your car to see if you wanted to score,shootings all sorts goin off.

@domthegamer5995 where did I say I seen loads of shootings?? Although I could name a few, someone I know got shot dead up there but I won't say his name on here, nothing I said was bullsh*t so calm down.. The jubilee pub, the rastas on the frontline,I remember the late 80s early 90s up there

@3:50 is that Thomas King House? Edit: Pioneer House, I commented too quickly. lol I lived in Hillfields from 1990 until 1999, and to be honest, it wasn’t that bad unless you went in and around the main streets and the flats. Those Yardies were brutal to each other though, we had a few stabbings and acid throwing. Someone did jump from those flats in 1990 though, from the second to top floor. The blood was still on the balcony where he hit his head till the rain washed it off, and where he landed…yeah, same really. There were some truly lost souls in Hillfields during the 90’s. Also, some genuinely good people.

@Bhodisatvas I was a bit young to be pub-hopping in the 90’s, haha, I only ever went to The Coliseum and the other goth hangouts in the town in the early 00’s. 🤣 Was Pioneer House rough, if you don’t mind me asking? As I know Thomas King House had a bit of a reputation.

When I lived in pheonix house it was mad, before they knocked them all down, every block had about 10 dealers in and about 20 around, there was prostitutes on every corner and crack dens all over the place it seems much more calmer now.
