PA-based Sanfilippo dad (to son Connor, 10 1/2 years old at the time) drove to Brooklyn one random Monday morning because he just had to meet Jill Wood - a Sanfilippo mom (to Jonah, also 10 1/2 years old at the time). What's amazing about Jill is that she started up a biotech (Phoenix Nest) to hopefully one day launch a clinical trial that might save lives, for Sanfilippo Syndrome type C. That's the type our two kids share. The odds? 1 in 1 million children are born with this specific genetic disorder each year. Sanfilippo Syndrome is likened to a childhood form of Alzheimer's. There is no cure, there are no effective treatments. But there are many incredible parents doing amazing things so far outside of their comfort zones to make something happen one day. Jill Wood is one of those human beings.
