I can still remember the Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, and French Horn parts!!!! We played this in '92.

Used to play this and other James Swearingen compositions back in high school in jr high and high school about 15 to 20 years ago. Oh my gosh did I start geeking out while listening to this. Still remember all the parts! And I'm glad band geeks are still playing it today. Band geeks for life! Totally posting this on my Facebook and tagging all my band sisters!

There were three works by Swearingen that all centered around the same basic melody and chord patterns. As a trumpet player in middle school and also high school bands in the late 80s, early 90s, I played all three and LOVED them. Invicta, Majestia, and Centuria.

When I played this in High School, the band director, at our concert, told the audience he liked this song because it reminded him of the TV advertisements for Pork: The other white meat!

0:27 - one of the best clarinet parts ever... all in unison, low register... LOVE THIS. This song is right up there with Blue Ridge Saga and one of my personal favorites, Exhaltation. yes i'm a band geek and dang proud of it~! lol.

Its funny how much you learn in a year, I played this at my first concert as a freshman in October and struggled a bit, but today we played it out of boredom as the last day of school is in a couple days and it was so easy.

Played alto sax on this in 1993 in middle school. I think this was fun for all junior high students no matter what they played. Every instrument had an awesome part.

Invicta certainly is a memory for me. I played it my Freshman year on Flute, read it on piccolo my sophmore year, and played it on Bass Clarinet for Junior year. It's a favorite with my band director. As is "Of Pride and Celebration."

My first exposure to James Swearingen was in 1978 in 8th grade at Mid America Music Camp at Ball State in Indiana. We played Exaltation. Mr. Swearingen's music is schmaltzy to say the least. But oh so much fun to play!

My favorite Tuba piece from junior high school. It sounds a lot different from the front than it does in the back row of the band. I haven't heard this since 1983. Jeez I'm old. Thanks for posting this!!!

I first heard this at a pre-band festival concert by another school, then heard it about three weeks later at the actual competition. It is one of the more memorable pieces I have heard but not played.

last year we played this judges gold invitational to Disneyland or as everyone called it on the band bus didneyland that was a very important trip for our band being its the first time Lincoln ever got gold which is hard I'm trombone 1 and my part is very high and fast paced

I played this in 8th grade (around. 1982). I played some of the best wind band literature through high school and college. Invicta is still one that ranks near the top of my favorites. My son is a middle schools band director now. I truly hope to hear his band play it one day.

I played snare for this song in a concert like yesterday. It was so much fun and we did awesome. We only had a last minute rehearsal in the highschool auditorium so I wasnt used to the loudness of the acoustic snare. We usually use some old quiet one that I have to beat the crap out of

Played this at a clinic, a few tubas and I changed the driving bass line and he said “TUBAS, that’s AWESOME!!!” So umm? I guess that’s good.

I played this back in HS, it was the first serious song I played, in the sense that it wasnt like, a medley or an arrangement of something. Playing the 1st trombone part was tough though, the melody was simple, but playing high notes quietly was tricky
