ah their stops! i love their stops. they really show that you don't need to move frantically about for every second of the entire song--sometimes less is more, a half to one second more of a stop here and there really makes it unique

...are you sure you're thinking of Argentine salon tango, not maybe ballroom/international standard/show tango? They did everything perfectly in this dance, as they usually do..this couple is one of the best ones

perfectly said. I read this little post written by someone who met Javier Rodriguez, and i think he said sth along the lines of, "you connect first and foremost with your partner, then together as one, the two of you connect to the music". There are so many little things, ah-ha moments, revelations in AT that can only be realized as one gets more into the dance. When i started i didn't get it" for the longest time, i thought i had to learn fancy moves to impress others, i had it completely wrong

Yo vivi del tango milongas mi padre salio el 1 priimer nailarin. Bueno jumto a sus hijos y esposa bailaba.mos su manera de bailar es maravilloso Ponen un tangos y mis ojos humedecen. Bailar. Es ums. Terapia y mis hermanps yo con mam bailamos. Se cerraba una pñaza y nailamos. Siempre.

Exactly my feelings. I'm far from that level, in some dances i may have a few moments/seconds of that feeling--when my leader led jsut right and i followed perfectly and we both danced to the music with precise musicality and everything just was perfect. I think as people get to advanced levels, fancier moves are incorporated seamlessly into the dance, not simply for the sake of fanciness, but because the music and the moment call for them.

Argentine Tango is entirely improvised--not just the milonga style.. He leads with his chest--he striaghtens and pushes up his chest, summoning his core power, they create a connection that way, and they communicate with body movements and signals--not with language or looking. This is why it's perfectly common for followers sometimes to dance with eyes closed--i do this all the time to better concentrate on my leader.

yes. they did. but I wasn't questioning their skills I was asking a technical question. as far as I know (and I'm a beginner) milonga tango is more of an improvisational dance, which means no pre-established steps. he leads, she follows. but how does she follow if she doesn't look at his shoulders?

It isn't a macho dance, some of the best leaders i've seen have the gentlest caminatas, like they're walking on clouds, yet the lead is confident and the support is firm for the follower.
