This is a squad of NCO’s being trained as drill instructors. If you look closely the headgear, berets, hackles and even lanyards differ. Indian Army regiments follow the traditions of dress etc as taught by the British Army. The pace stick is to teach soldiers to march with 30” steps. Quick March is 120 steps per minute, except that ‘Rifle and Light Infantry’ units march at 140 steps per minute. We learnt a lot from the British, nothing to be ashamed about that. It is what it is. My apologies to any Brit soldier or otherwise. No insult was intended. Sometimes, ignorance rears it’s ugly head.

Sharp drill, well disciplined body of men, but the exaggerated check-step, the almost goose-step that the boys break into as they march on isn't a Commonwealth thing, smacks far more of the Chinese/Russians/Germans.... which is kinda disappointing in a way i can't quite define... This isnt even a Russian/Chinese/Wehrmacht goosestep either, traditional goosestep involves bringing the knee up first, then extending the leg straight on the way down. Here the leg is straightened on the way up and stays straight until the foot hits the ground again. Its been 73 years since independence, the Indians now have their own styles and traditions in place.
@sailordoc28183 жыл бұрын
Hasn’t always been this way .. marching pattern has changed over the past few decades in India and it is apparent when you compare the marching of infantry contingents upto to 170s-80s at the Republic day parades , with more recent ones ... Bit of a pity really .. too stiff and awkward
