Try the lemon and eucalyptus bug spray, Cutter and 2 others make it, said to work well on the PCT. Wow, a hairy tree! Love watching your thru hike, and living vicariously through your videos! Just a bit of jealousy as I'm unable to hike at this time, not giving up. Love the vibes and fun and love of your tramily!!❤ Good mileage! Glad you're being smart about eating away from sleeping area. In Kings Canyon, down at the bottom, 30 years ago, before bear boxes, my son had left candy in a box containing a toy , we were awakened during the night by much noise, we banged pans and husband chased off a huge bear. In the moring we found the box with the marks of bear teeth ripping it open and most of the gum was gone. Another day, down by a stream, son and dad fishing, me leaning against tree eating sandwich, my mom goes " Sandra you need to get up and get away from the tree quickly and quietly". A bear was behind the tree showing interest in my sandwich! Mom and I walked the short distance to the stream and hubby threw a big rock into the stream bed which caused dirt to fly up and bear scampered off. But we know that not all bear encounters end so well...

The highway you crossed is 66 which connects Ashland to Klamath Falls. The dam / waterfall is for Little Hyatt Lake. The big/main lake is maybe a half mile or so east or NE. You're crossing my home turf now. I hope to use your vids as intel-gathering for my own upcoming weekend-ish hikes. I'm sure you're on north of Crater Lake by now but ... I hope to learn that you took the side trip over to Ranger Springs. It's about 3/4ths of a mile each way and the water is out of this world coming straight from the ground from a little field of artesian springs. It'd be a great place to camp but this time of year the mosquitoes might pack you off. Anyway, please keep sharing. Those of us glued to our desks need the inspiration!

We're following you and living vicariously through you. Like your energy but envious of your age. Accolades to your mom for you to reach her mile pace. Home country for us, this Nor Cal and Southern Ore area. Seiad, Mt. Ashland, Ashland. Lotsa good memories here. There are good places to be from and good places to be. This area is a good place to be. You'll probably be through Crater Lake before you read this. It's always an awesome experience to see it. Jim and Sandi

You’re in our area now. We wanted to surprise you and bring you dinner, but I think your videos are about a week behind where you are. We are headed up to Crater Lake for the week and I’m going to be looking for you! Keep the great videos coming.

During the warm weather, deer are attracted to anything salty. I have seen them get into tents for food left by campers. Crazy!! Bears as well. Keep on trekking. Rick

That's my thought as well. They like the salt!

Trekking pole handles are little salt licks to the wild creatures in the heat of summer.
