You brought back memories. I’ve taken more than one person on their 1st overnight backpack adventure there at Rosary Lake. It’s a little jaunt. Easy trail and beautiful lake. Great way to make someone’s first experience a great one. Good plug on the kidney donation…and to show one can still do something like thru-hiking.

Thanks for placing the kidney donation part in your video. My son changed my life for the better with a kidney in 2013. It was then I was watching your hammock camping and LHHT series, AT adventure and now your PCT adventures. New life. Of the burn outs, I understand that in order for some pinecones to open - they have to be subjected to tremendous heat (forest fires). Another example of new life. Ultimately, Jesus is to me new life in John 3:16. I love life now, but look forward to eternity. Tim Allen said life is just too weird, there has to be something more. Thank you for letting me see so much I could not see any other way. Your love for your family is stellar. Maybe one of those days you'll be breaking in your two year old into the art of hammock camping?

So glad you let UltraLight tell his story, and the importance of it. I would like to add a plea to all who are able to do so to donate blood, and please do consider organ donation if possible at end of life (and lett your loved ones know if your decision to donate is positive). It all counts so much for the recipients! ❤

Wow Ultralight, amazing. Organ donations are amazing! Agreed, saving someones life, the greatest gift!!! Seems many packs arent really designed to last 2650 miles.... Seeing all the dead trees would get to anyone!! Hang in there!!!

Ultralight's story and message can save lives. Thank you for letting him share it. I've been going through the process of being evaluated as a donor for a family member, and am relieved to know that I'm not giving up the possibility of a future PCT thru hike by doing so. It can be hard to find avid hikers, let alone backpackers, who've donated and can share their experiences. Altruistic donors like him are the most selfless of all.

Bigfoot the best outlook on a previous video. “Hike, every foot of trail that you can hike safely and enjoy every moment out of it.” He is a man with a positive attitude. Glad you’re hiking with a guy like that -Keep being Grateful, you got this.

It was great camping with and meeting you and Bigfoot! Thank you for sharing my donation story. I misspoke and said 13 ppl die each year, it’s actually every day in the US waiting for a kidney Ultralight~

I remember wondering how many hundreds of miles of burn area I walked through when hiking the PCT in 2018. I know there're many more now for you. It can be depressing. For my thru, the trail was closed from Rainy Pass to the monument but then opened up to Hart's Pass. Finally, trail opened up to the monument, though there was a detour starting from Harts Pass until near Woody Pass. What I'm saying is, the trail may close for a while but by the time you get near, it may open up for you. Best of luck and thank you for sharing your journey with us.

Hi Jason you just have to do the best you can to get through your hike the fires are allways a factor on the PCT. Just think about all the communities where people have lost everything from the fires if they are lucky they made it out with their lives. It is just so devastating. Be safe man.

I'm glad you were able to fix your tent zipper. Both my tent zippers blewout on my Big Agnus, I was able to get the one side zipped up. The other side I use saftey pins to close it. I may try and fix the zippers, but I do not think there is a permanent fix to tent zippers.

Lived in Stehekin for 3 seasons, friends still there tell me the fire is close, but they feel confident, if you know the terrain there it's expensive and people live way across the valley. However the post office is officially closed so it doesn't screw up your resupply. The easy fire near highway 20 is currently small, but it's far away from the monument. Very far.

The Pioneer fire in northern Washington is within about a mile of Stehekin according to data on Postholer. If it reaches Stehekin, it will be tragic to the community and hikers.

great you get ultralight's story out to a wider audience thanks. im catching up after being on all kinds of trips myself/. i like your attitude of getting to the finish regardless of having to work around some fires/ if you have to hitch around some stuff so be it, glad you are making the best of it./ it is sad but that's nature sometimes.../// also comedy: it's the Pacific CREST trail not the valley trail hahahaha not gonna make it easy for you haha
@BOF74314 ай бұрын
Man can only take care of what lies in front of him. If you don’t get the touch this Monument this trip, it will be a gut punch I get it but think of how many others never did either, in this case, due to fires. The idea of doing it for yourself now is one huge ass achievement primarily and then secondarily, doing it with your trail mate Bigfoot - a friend for life you would not have met without this trail. Retain the positives when you are alone or with your wife over looking a sunset over a valley; the negatives also can be looked back as well as either a teaching point in life OR as something that would have never faced except on the trail, and you learned something from it. More importantly, you can pass on this info to your son when you take him out on the trails when he gets older. One last thing on the Monument. You can come back at another time when things are better. Afterall, you ran into Kyle at the CA/OR state line who was back to complete some portions missed in the past. That will be another story you can throw in the “Life Experiences” folder too ! 686 miles to go ! Remember when you were the same amount of miles in, just south of Kennedy Meadows ? What were your thoughts back then ? Did it hit you that you would get to the Sisters area ?

Dropping a note I hope you see - It helps to remember that fire is natural part of the ecosystem. Multiple species along the Pacific Crest cannot reproduce without fire. The great northern Redwood and the great Sequoias need fire to reproduce. Any fire at all is not the problem. The problem is that we don't commit enough resources to understanding and properly managing fire so that needed natural fires can occur safely. So I hope you don't feel sad walking through burn areas. New life is brimming in those areas that needs fire to exist.
