The Sullivan Brothers: Alleta Sullivan's Letter to the Bureau of Naval Personnel

On November 13, 1942 the USS Juneau carrying all 5 Sullivan brothers was destroyed by two Japanese torpedoes. In January of 1943 after months of not hearing from her sons, Alleta Sullivan wrote this letter. The voice reading the letter is Kelly Sullivan who is Alleta's great granddaughter.

Its heartbreaking to lose your child. Especially serving their country. Something I know about personally. I can't imagine losing all of them at once

As of March 17, 2018, the wreck of the Juneau, was finally discovered.. in a spot that will be kept secret to prevent scavengers from ever coming to any of the war vessels that have now been located. When it was located and correctly identified they were pleased to discover that it was St. Patrick's Day... in honor of the 5 (Irish) Sullivan brothers that lost their lives.

Their names and memories live on,as two ships were named in their honor 1 The Fletcher Class Destroyer USS The Sullivans DD-537 which now resides in Buffalo,NY and the Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer USS The Sullivans DDG-68

They stuck together they stayed together they had a special bond with each other they risk their lives on the ship that was a tragedy when they lost their lives

The truth is even more harrowing than the movie, the sisters fiance died on the Arizona at Pearl Harbour, prompting the 5 brothers to enlist & they died apart, not all at once after the USS Juneau sank that had 30 sets of brothers on it, this is absolutely crazy to get to grips with, no wonder this very sad episode of world war 2 led to Saving Private Ryan, my sincere condolences from the UK 🙏🏻.
