If you are wanting to fully cancel out your orange/red undertones, then you need something that has a ton of blue/green. So a box dye that would say COOL tone. Your hair will not be as blue/cool as the box. It will end in a true neutral tone (aka. Not warm nor cool toned). Even neutral still has a ton of reds in it. But doing this will make it darker. That's just what happens when you neutralize hair tones. Also a hair tip: if it's too dark, use Head & Shoulders a couple times and it will slowly strip your color, but will remove any neutralizing tones your put over your reds. Love the color on you though!

Also cool tones tend to appear darker. Using box color consistently over your whole head can change your porosity causing the possibility of pulling dark &/or fading fast. Yes head & shoulders dish soap even can lift a little color but at the cost of the health of the hair & again perpetuating the porosity issue. Which judging by how long your hair has always been is probably why you’re never happy at the salon. Box coloring constantly especially w something that is not a 5volume or less or demi perm developer … vicious cycle.

when you dye your hair you should put some petrolium jelly on your ear, back of neck and across your forehead. it provides a barrier so the dye wont stain your ears or neck etc and when you rinse its easy to just wash the petrolium jelly off. just a tip to help you. 🫶

Echoing what someone else said about box dye being the reason it’s fading red/orange! Your hair looks GREAT, and, the developer in the box dye actually lightens your hair first in order to deposit the darker color (all within one application)… which means when the dye fades, that lighter red/orange is underneath no matter what. You can get 10 volume developer and professional dye for around the same price at a beauty supply store, still do it yourself, and extend how long your color lasts! 💕

Most if these box dyes use a higher (20-30- or even 40v) peroxyde cus they have the "cover greys" claims, if you want affordable but stays darker, you can buy a kit thats seperated of 10vol. peroxyde & a hair dye individually. Been dying my hair at home for years doing this ! It also helps your hair stay healthier cus thd peroxyde volume really doesnt need to be high at all if you are going darker (advice i got from a hairdresser too!)

The reason it fades is cuz box dye uses I high level developer than needed to deposit color. You can go to a beauty supply store & get level 10 cream developer & then a level 5 or 6 brown color. Cool tones are gonna have green to neutralize those red tones you don't want. Oh & the reason it looks darker is cuz its cool toned! So weird but cool tones look darker than warm ones, even if they're the same level. Hope this helps!

I probably should be more specific when explaining the developers.. the higher the number the more its gonna open your hair cuticle. If you do that over & over, your hair becomes porous, which allows color to enter yes but also allows it to exit quicker. When you use a lower volume, you prevent that from happening. Color only needs like a level 8 or 10, & box dye uses level 20 or 30 cuz they want you to be able to go from black to the desired color.

I used demi permanent hair color to dye my hair back to brown from blonde. It does fade bc it’s not permanent, but I don’t think it fades to red like box dye does. I believe, box dye has lighteners in it as well which also cause it to fade to red. I’ve switched my mom from box dye (which she was using for years) to demi permanent as well and she no longer has that fading to red anymore. Now it just fades to her natural hair color.

Matrix has a green mask for brunettes to get rid of the red tone, I would recommend using it once every two weeks. Doesn't damage the hair 🤗

The thing with hair dye is it's gonna fade and if you wash your hair in hot water; then it's going to fade faster. So switching brands or color is not going to do a whole lot in that aspect. Though, the hair is gorgeous!!

Just a heads up, brown hair dye is always going to fade, whether you do it at home or get it done professionally. Blonde stays because you bleach the hair and literally remove pigment.

Buy a toning shampoo and conditioner for brunettes. It helps minimize orange/ red tones. Coloring your hair will always fade even though it says permanent. The permanent part is it’s permanently altering your hair. You can try semi permanent or toners to just deposit color. Ok bye!
