Higher FG% last year than Mason Crosby had his first 4 years in the league.

One of the best things Mike McCarthy did was supporting Mason Crosby during a bad streak. Crosby turned and turned into a money kicker.

No, he didn't, he has a lower career FG% than Carlson.

@@wied You're joking right? You're comparing a kid with one season of experience with a 19-year veteran? Carlson is half a percentage point ahead of Crosby. You realize that across long stretches, averages regress to the mean, right? It's the reason baseball players who are hot in April usually don't finish the season with a BA above.400. Your point is silly.
@wied24 күн бұрын
@@grouchomarxist666 Calling one of the worst modern era kickers a "money kicker" is the real joke. Okay, how about comparing their FG% going into a season, then? In those 19 seasons, Crosby never entered a season with a career FG% as high as Carlson has going into this season. "You realize that across long stretches, averages regress to the mean, right?" Uh, no they don't. Over time, there is more data so there is less variance, and we know with greater certainty what the player is. Justin Tucker kicked ~90% his rookie year, he didn't "regress" to league average, he pretty consistently stayed in the 88-92% FG pct. Because he's an excellent kicker. Crosby consistently had a career FG% below league average, so we can say with certainty he wasn't a good (or "money" if you prefer) kicker because of the wealth of data. Carlson could be better, worse, or about the same as we get more data. I suspect with an improvement in long snapping that he will be a much better kicker, and continue to be a better kicker than Crosby.

it doesn’t matter how far he can kick it if he can’t be accurate most of your kicks will be within 40 yards so having a leg isn’t as needed as having accuracy
@braylonmielke76117 күн бұрын
Right, but you can teach accuracy, you can’t teach range, it’s also a lot easier when trying to get into field goal range. Getting into field goal range from 50+ yards out compared to 40+. It’s a lot easier on the QB in those close game situations knowing your kicker can kick 50+ yards which Anders can do with ease, it’s just the accuracy with him but you can teach accuracy

A lot of kickers struggle their first couple of years when they enter the NFL. It's quite rare for a kicker to come in and immediately do well. I would guess that there are anywhere between 10-15 rookie kickers that are good enough to be playing in the NFL, but almost all of them struggle with consistency.

Explodes off his foot?! Bro, MLF wouldn’t even attempt 54 yarders in a dome. I don’t know why everyone thinks his leg is massive. The dude can barely kick to the endzone on kickoffs. Someone please provide me evidence of him bombing balls in practice or in college because I’ll gladly admit I’m wrong. Usually guys stick around in the NFL if they have accuracy or power. He appears to not have either.
