WTF, there's a hidden pocket?! I've had the Gen1 since the kickstarter and use it all the time, and had NO IDEA it was there! I just checked, and it still contained the PD business card that came in there. Crazy!!

Been considering the V2 for a while, but I think I'm sticking with my V1 for a bit longer. The side flap pockets were the deal killer for me. I use those four tiny pockets for batteries and the full-height zipper makes it easy to quick-stash items like my laptop charger or even a pack of sanitizing wipes. The fact it opens flat is also a big thing for me; I think I would miss that. Thanks for the great, in-depth comparison.

makes sense! My conclusion after the video is that the V2 is generally a good upgrade, but those side pockets not opening flat… ouch, that would feel quite frustrating to me I think

I’ve been a longtime user of the Peak Everyday Messenger back and love it. It’s 3 years old now and looks completely brand new. You do get what you pay for in terms of build quality. I just picked up the Everyday Backpack V2 in the blue color shown in this video and love it. The quick adjusting straps are great, lots of storage, lots of pockets, the fabric feels fantastic, zippers are smooth, and the straps seem comfortable so far. I’m using the backpack for my work gear (13” laptop, 12.9” iPad, and other materials) but I’m also a photographer and have loaded a considerable amount of gear in the backpack. Quite impressed so far and I’m able to leave my Pelican case at home now.

I still like the V1 better for some reason. It fits what I do perfect. This was a great comparison video. I actually got my mom to sow in some magnets for the straps. It was easy and works just like the V2. For an everyday bag you get beat either of these. I will say when I travel I use my Lowepro protactic 450. Great video man love the channel.

Hey, you pointed out the inner sidepockets as an improvement, especially because of the now missing zip to close it. between the inner pockets an the outside zipper"curtain" you could stuff bigger hdmi cables an other stuff which wont work now. the buttom inner zipper makes it hard to place and find something, should have stayed wither the upper mesh pocket
@paulwesley38625 жыл бұрын
good comparison however you missed a few details: (style is: old vs new and marked positive and negative) small hole between main compartment and -laptop compartment near the top vs no such pass through +"slippy" zipper string for laptop compartment vs now there is plastic at the end +normal flexfold devider vs stitching on it and the backpack in the middle for easier centered placement - document / tablet pocket was angled for easier access vs straight - normal document / tablet pocket now hold down by magnet (can close while putting in documents => they might get foldet) -hidden pocket is now drastically smaller -magnet pocket on front side not as tall anymore

@@PackHacker2 I currently have both bags and plan to return one, however it's a tough decision to which one... more comfy straps on V2 are a big plus I like the design better of V1. Also they made the V2 bag inferior to the V1 by removing or downgrading many features. Most notably for me: plastic hooks, smaller hidden pocket, no cable passthrough hole, no bicycle light holder, smaller magnetic front pocket Things I personally don't like: smaller top opening, no large side zipper pocket anymore, wings don't open as much anymore. So yeah decision very hard...

I think they could solve the water problem probably entering the top lateral fabric corners by adding an additional folding seam inwards. Then the fabric would be forced to go inside automatically. Just a thought. I really like both versions, but they are far out of my range.

I love the outside aesthetic of these bags but the inside divider system seems to lose its appeal after time and unzipping one of the sides too much just causes too many things to roll out of the bag. I think these bags are good for carrying a few important items like a camera and lens or something but hard for me to call it an everyday bag.

How would you feel about using the 30L for every day carry applications? My use case is a little weird (need to carry stuff to demo for work) so the extra space is definitely useful, but im wondering if the 30L ends up being too much on the bulky side vs the 20l if you plan on carrying it around every day.

On my quest for the perfect bag, I bought the fit pack 2, the travel pack 2 small, the Briggs & Riley Kinzie St large, and the Synik 30. The fit pack is a tad too small so I’m selling that one (if anyone wants a fit pack x-pac lmk) and the rest of the bags will arrive in a couple days. I’m tempted to order the PD 30L V2 but I wonder if it would be a real contender as a daily work/gym/ occasional travel when I’m usually NOT planning on carrying camera gear in it. In other words, how well it really performs as an *everyday* backpack....

I guess it individual - but I like the V1 design a lot better ! Especially the side pockets ! I think the access to the side pockets seems a lot more difficult and cumbersome on the V2 + I don't like the fact that they have reduced the amount of pockets !! As it is a camera bag first and foremost, it is very handy to have different sizes of pockets galore to store your bits and bobs ! The fact that the side panels doesn't open up fully when unzipped is almost a dealbreaker for me, because I can imagine having to use one hand forcing them to stay open while removing or putting in gear. Finally I don't like that the overall design of the V2 compared to the V1 has been "simplified" ........... I would probably use another word ........ "cheapofied" comes to mind instead :) I have bought a second hand V1 from a friend and have no desire to "upgrade", as I honestly feel that there is no real upgrade to be found, although I must admit that the feature with the magnets holding the shoulderstraps in is a nice touch, though :-) But I wonder if those magnets sewn into the straps can be felt pressing against your chest, when wearing the bag with a full load in the summer, just wearing a thin shirt ............. I mean, the shoulder straps are quite narrow in the first place on both versions (seems like the V2 are slightly narrower even ?) All in all I feel that no real upgrade has been made ............. more a case of Peak Design feeling they had to change something to keep the customers interested and at the same time make the production more "lean" :)

This review is hilarious. Most things you say are “better” are completely subjective and just personal preference. Reviewing the ash version of the v1 actually has more differences than the charcoal version. Charcoal v1 has hypalon instead of nubuck leather. The side handles on charcoal v1 are the same as v2, they don’t have nubuck leather.. What’s funny is how you seemed to prefer the hypalon vs the nubuck in one place but not the other, like on the shoulder straps. You made a remark about how you were afraid the sternum strap might fall off then struggle to take it off.. it’s pretty secure. Commented about the spade vs rounded shape of the zippers.. geez. Understandable if the new ones function better but the shape is just another personal preference. Anyhow, still happy with the V1, the only real improvement to me would be the zippers if they actually perform better. All the extra mounting loops for external carry not really necessary imo. A few updates were downgrades as well imo. Nice to see the comparison of everything, that is helpful.

I dislike both bags tbh, the latch system never really works for me and while I like being able to customize the bag my needs are not exclusively photography based and I like a hybrid bag I use as part edc and part photoggraphy. My issue with the every day is it cannot carry items like a textbook,binder, a laptop, and a camera all at the same time. Its really great at nothing but photography gear, but as a content creator who is on the go constantly this is not ideal and that laptop sleeve is annoy af. I picked up a few bags in the last month to test out and so far my favorites are the wndrd pvrke ( great bag but I f'king hate roll tops, and its ugly beyond all reason), the wndrd duo (my new edc bag, I stuck peak design origami inserts into it and its amazing) and the pgy tech onemo (good travel bag, and "tolerable" edc bag when backpacking around foreign cities just wish it was a little smaller and I could customize the cubes location), I also rather like peters bag but its just too got damned big (if they made a 20litre option it would be the perfect camera bag)

@r.derrickthomas29095 жыл бұрын
I agree; the side pockets are less functional because of the change in angle of access. The upper chamber looks like it would hold less because of the reduced fabric (which still didn’t solve the problem of the gap opening). It seems they changed some things to look better but the function was reduced (aluminum accents, leather, reduction on padding and the change in webbing material). The side pocket access is a failure when you think about it from on-body access standpoint. If the panel doesn’t open flat then it will have a tendency to close back toward the zipped position even when it’s fully open.
