Packing 4 bedroom house into 8x8x16 PODS Container

Packing our 4 bedroom house inside one 8x8x16 PODS Container! Overall we fit 95% of our belongings and it took 2 days to pack. In the end the container was completely full with no room to spare. We moved across country from Washington DC to California and everything made it without being damaged! The weight of our furniture was just under 10,000 pounds and the container held up without any issues. Had a great experience with PODS and would do it again if we had to.

Nice, glad it helps. Overall we were very impressed with PODS and had a great experience. We have had movers pack and move all of our stuff on past moves and end up with broken or misplaced items. I liked the peace of mind of knowing I packed everything how I want it and am not leaving it in someone else's hands. Best of luck with your move!

@@elenaluzz yes, we were, it was helpful to fill the empty spaces in furniture (dressers, bookcases, cabinets, etc), load the furniture in, then fill the dresser drawers with clothes or stack boxes into the book cases

I am very impressed you manage to do that! We had a three bed two bath house, and the largest POD did not fit everything. We also felt a little misled. Pod mentioned it would fit a three bed two bath, but we didn’t see until later the fine print said 1200 ft.²… We had a 1500+ square-foot house. And we ended up having to take a U-Haul as well. My only guess is you guys must be really good at Tetris, maybe even play it as a sport😂😂😂

Yeah every drawer, cabinet, gap on the floor and spot we could find was filled with stuff. We even filled the washer and dryer with clothes. It was no easy challenge and we were really concerned about the weight but we made it happen! We did sell 2 of our 3 sofas and our refrigerator before moving so that helped out a ton. We had a 2 week notice before moving and this was really the only option we had so were overall happy with the experience.

I guess if ever gotta use more then one pod or truck that it just means u have too much stuff i guess lol. i am trying to declutter or purge stuff over time so i can fit any and al i plan to take when gotta move later any. parents tire of moving so pretty much stuck where i at for now till can move later anytime. so i just gotta detail stuff any only save stuff i real want keep any and toss or donate or sell any later.

We have 2 Q sizes beds, 1 Fulton, couch, loveseat, 2 large coffee tables large dining table with 6 chairs, 2 large china , 2 large dressers with mirrors, couple of regular dressers. 2 large computer desks, huge TV set. I am an artist , so many art works. Lown equipment, and many other little things plus boxes from kitchen and personal. Anyway, we hired 2 guys to help. First pls they finished well. But second, they were on the rush and we had to redo second again. And we did better job. However we had to order 3 pod 8x8x7. We also have many plants. So, our house was 2600square and we really packed very tight and we have a lot of stuff. Those 2 guy spent 6hr. And we continue yourselves . So every one has different situation.

8x8x16=1024 cubic feet. The actual inside size is 7x7x15.33=752 cubic feet. The actual usable storage space is about 26% less than advertised.

Excellent video (and packing). The PODS site says that the weight limit is 4,200 pounds. Did you put all ~10,000 pounds into a single container? My spouse and I are currently stressing about the weight capacity, but we're probably right around 4,200.

Have moved in past using uhaul trucks etc. even if a pod hold so much , then to make sure u got space any after all is in gotta declutter or purge any to make sure u only take what u need and real want or just packing all real needs or want with any trash or stuff that can donate and be wasting space anytime. but cool u shows how much can fit in a pod even if u may have had sell anything for space or donate any.

Is the maximum weight limited? Did you estimate your weight or does the driver/facility tell you how much it weighs? I'll be moving tools in addition to furniture which is why I'm concerned.

The company weights it as they pick it up. (I used Pack Rats). They emailed info on estimate of usual things people move. Good luck!

No, they are the ones that actually weighed it after they picked it up. I was very concerned with the weight as I saw the same 4,200 pound limit on the website but I talked to the operator who picked it up and he said it could take up to around 15,000lbs. I didn’t ask any more questions and just went with it since I would have been dreading unloading everything to make it lighter. They had no problem lifting it with the podzilla and never mentioned anything about it being over weight.

I worked in Hesperia (Apple Valley) when hubby was in the military at George AFB (now closed). It was horrible back then (1980's) as it was like a ghost town and nothing to do. I know it's better now. Safe travels!!

Lightly furnaced 4 bedroom. Ended up selling our couch, mattress and a few other things to make it fit. Ended up being 9,500lbs of stuff which took some effort to fit. Had a great experience with PODS and nothing was damaged on the move!

Great job playing tetras lol, though correct me if I'm wrong and not trying to critize, but only saw 2 dressers, a bookshelf, 2 bed frames, a couch, and 1 box springs. Didn't see any chairs, kitchen table etc. Either you took them appart, or you got rid of mattresses, other dressers, etc. or I'm missing something.....

For large furniture items we sold our kitchen table, kitchen chairs and king size mattress. We did have a queen size mattress in there with the box springs though. We also had 2 night stands, 3 dressers, 2 bookshelves, washer/dryer, a sofa table, and couch. We also had a full garage weight set and toolboxes which added to the weight of the pod. This freed up enough room for us to use the pod. We broke down our kids crib, boxed up all tv’s, and packed every dresser drawer, microwave, and washer and dryer full of clothes and other items to make it work. No space was left unused! Hope this helps

@@kathydimartino678 TV's did just fine. We put 1 in its original box and wrapped the others with blankets. I think we packed everything so tight that nothing was shifting around too much. The only damage from the shipment was a dent in our dryer from something falling on it.

Yeah, we were worried about the weight as well after seeing that limitation on the website but called to confirm as I was packing because the last thing we wanted to do was take all of that stuff out. They said it could take up to around 30,000lbs and it was a conservative weight restriction for the "podzilla". The operator said the weight was not an issue and they even weighed it before and after since that is the way I was reimbursed from my work for the move. Held up just fine and would use them again if we had to.

Depends on the distance of the move. Mine is $2,000...the container is $300/ month including insurance. There is a fee for delivering it your house and a fee for delivery to your destination. Then there is a fee for transportation mileage. They quoted me $1500 for a 400 mile move.

@@Mariana090267 No problem! It was a great service as they were on time for delivery and pickup and it was convenient to have as much time as we needed to pack and un-pack our container. Also was nice (although a lot of work) to be able to load our items in a way where they would not be damaged during the move. We have had countless items damaged in previous moves but no real damage this time around. PODS was a good experience and we would use them again. Hope this helps!
